From the linked indiewire article:

Quote
The filmmaker said Mackenzie’s cyborg character Grace will be enough to get misogynistic internet trolls shaking in their boots.  “If you’re at all enlightened, she’ll play like gangbusters. If you’re a closet misogynist, she’ll scare the *expletive deleted*ck out of you, because she’s tough and strong but very feminine,” Miller said. “We did not trade certain gender traits for others; she’s just very strong, and that frightens some dudes.

[dead pan voice] oh yes, a strong but feminine cyborg in the Terminator franchise.  you are so daring and woke, that's never been done before.  trolls won't like it because they're mysoginists, so *expletive deleted*ck them.  Even a well written and acted feminine cyborg would be so threatening the incels would hate it and troll.  You enlightened director you. As I have mentioned far too many times already, this woke crap is really getting my goat  They are doing it with Jack Ryan this season as well. The Venezuelan president, instead of being a Maduro/Chavez commie, is alluded to be a conservative/totalitarian, and the left wing socialist female candidate in the election (AOC anyone?) is who will save Venezuela.

Yep- I turned it on last night, first episode ,season two. There were distinct glimmers last season, but this one started out with full on SWJ BS.
I turned it off before I puked. Woke CIA Preppie boy addressing an audience of the diverse, talking about that bad dictator in Venezuela and the social justice activist opponent- an utter 100% 180 degree bootleg turn from reality.

To really get a vantage of the SJW pervasiveness, it is instructive to watch some older movies - after I turned off the PC propaganda, I watched "The Patriot". I don't think this movie would be made today. Same with a lot of them.

Not sure it was considered well acted or well written, but Terminator 3 had Kristanna Loken.  So yes, it has been done before.  It has been done before quite a bit.  You might even say it was normal and not new or brave or daring at all.

People still think that female action heros is a new thing? Where have they been for the past 20 years?

Deborah, Israeli Judge, was a few thousand years ago, but that's not the point. It's only been in the past couple of decades that every other movie and tv show decided they had to have some chick that beats up guys. It was still unusual when Wonder Woman and the Bionic Woman came around, but at this point it's jumped the shark.

But, it's like everything else. We had a black president 3 years ago, but now America is a racist hell-hole. "Transexuals" have never been more accepted than now, but some people claim they're being "systematically" hunted and killed, and no one's doing anything about it. And so on and so forth.

Seems to be not doing so well overseas as well. A lot of this could be flat out franchise fatigue with the "woke" stuff not helping s well in the US.

I was thinking along those lines but I wanted to make sure.
But are they (overseas) hearing/reading about it in the media as much as we do here?

I was thinking along those lines but I wanted to make sure.
But are they (overseas) hearing/reading about it in the media as much as we do here?

While that link is Chinese, I can say from talking with friends that the EU definitely is, if not more.  In the Mid-east, they do hear it but it's there's more of a "look what the crazy white people are doing now" vibe.  There's no push from the "elites" to be woke so the whole thing is kind of a joke.  But because of the prevalence of western entertainment, especially TV, Movies, and Video Games the woke is exported pretty well.

Side note:  I realized the other day that I just don't want to see movies very much anymore.  Where I'm at now, I can go see movies for free by just walking to the theater, and I can't be bothered to do that.  The next movie I will go see is Star Wars, and there's a sense of masochism/abuse victim rolled up in that (THIS time they've changed.  They promised.).  It's kind of sad, because I bet there are actually decent movies being made, I'm just so over Hollywood at this point I can't be bothered to figure out which ones they might be.  It's not even a boycott (in my mind), my wife and I just don't treat movies as an entertainment source anymore.

TC is similar.  There are a handful of shows that I like, and a couple more that I want to try out, but for the most part I just don't watch TV for entertainment.  I haven't watched even one episode a professionally produced show since July.  Again, not a conscious "*expletive deleted*ck Hollywood, I'm boycotting" but just nothing that makes me want to fire up one of my streaming services.  Amazon has me with The Grand Tour (not exactly woke TV), I'm going to try the Mandalorian, When Westworld hits, I'm in for season 3, When I fire up HBO now for Westworld I might give His Dark Materials a try, and When the Witcher drops in Dec I'm going to watch it.  That's really it.  That's my TV through 2020.  For content producers it's a self expanding problem.  Since I don't watch TV, I don't see ads for new shows I might like, so I don't watch TV.  I wonder how many other folks are having similar experiences as the "pay for cable TV, so just flip it on to see what I might want to watch" paradigm is replaced by the "Pay for streaming so watch exactly what I want and turn TV off" paradigm.

This whole "woke" TV/movie thing might be the death throes of an industry trying to figure out how to keep their base, and responding to the loud ones.  Most folks that don't like it don't really send letters or picket movies, or whatnot, they just shrug, and stay home.

7 of the top 10 grossing films of all time (adjusted for inflation) are pre-2000.  6 of them are pre 1990.  Of the ones on the list since 2000 you have Avatar (transformation visual spectacle), Avengers: End Game (the culmination of an 19 film story, which no one thinks Marvel can pull off at that scale in Phase 4), and Star Wars: The Force Awakens (yeah, that didn't go well).  I suspect the smart business folks in Hollywood (as opposed to the artists) realize that their business model is in real trouble.

Roger that. While there are exceptions (Longmire is one example for me), ever since Netflix and Amazon got into the production game instead of just streaming other people's stuff, they seem, to me, to be chasing the loudest narrative, which is generally not normal people.

I too, just turn the damn box off when stuff doesn't suit me.  I don't write a letter of complaint and I don't picket in front of the studio. Instead, I fire up the Kindle, or play a video game, or tinker with stuff in my tinkering room. I would also mention "go outside", but my TV watching is generally limited to the evening, except for Fox Business when I first wake up. I just am not into going out to the movies anymore, regardless of how good the movie is, so in that situation, I do go outside and wait for the movie to show up on a streaming service.

I have several small children, so our TV gets used for the "crappy children's programming"1 on Netflix/Amazon. Otherwise, I haven't gotten into a TV program in over a decade. I tried "Jack Ryan", but I lost interest. (And the reports I've read of season 2 going woke reinforces that choice.) I really can't even think of any others that have interested me lately- I guess I watched "The Grand Tour" and I've watched Top Gear episodes, but that's about the only "popular" show I've watched, and it's not exactly what most people think of as a series.

For the most part, we watch movies, and not usually the modern ones. Star Wars lost me completely.2 I enjoyed most of the MCU, but it's over now, no matter what they claim. I liked some of the Netflix original movies (The Highwaymen, Bright) but mostly we just watch old movies. We have a documentary streaming service that has been really enjoyable, too.

Honestly, once my children aren't interested in children's programming, I don't know that we need Netflix any more. Amazon we will likely keep because it's tied with other services.

1) I read an article (that I can't find now) on how Netflix makes its money on "mediocre content". From my recollection MOST television content has been mediocre, and that is true for most children's programming. Honestly, I'd say that the things my children enjoy are at least as good as most of the crap I watched as a child. (I do have mostly girls, so I often think it's worse, but that's probably because I find shows made for little girls less engaging.)

2)  (I made a joke when one of my relatives posted about TLJ that they were going to see it that night, so no spoilers. I picked the absolutely most ludicrous, INSANE thing for the writers to do and said "I can't believe they killed Luke!"... and look at that, even my most insane idea of what they could do to ruin the franchise was exactly what they did.)
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

Saw TDF.... it was basically the same thing as THE FORCE AWAKENS. Told the same story with a few slight details different and hope nobody notices. Enjoyable, but not epic. And the "AI robots conquer the world no matter what" theme is getting tired.

However, I hope they make a sequel in a few years.....because I really want to see what a 90-year-old Terminator looks like.

You know, if it weren't for the Tim Miller comment, I'd likely not have been focused on every dumbass woke feminist thing the female leads said and did and just chalked it up to "B-movie dialogue". Otherwise, the first five minutes kind of killed off the first two movies, which were also the best of the bunch.

They would make the female protagonist some sort of ex-CIA James Bond clone and destroy the "normal person" flare of the original.
