Okay, a few I can think of off the top of my head:
Rawhide
Rifleman
Bonanza
Cheyenne
Avengers
Green Hornet
Mission Impossible
Mannix
There must be a hundred more.
-
Hawaii Five-O
That one will get stuck in your head!
-
Futurama
Aqua Teen Hunger Force "We are the Aqua Teens, make the homeys say ho and the girlies wanna scream."
The Simpsons
Firefly's theme is kitchy, but good nonetheless.
Mystery Science Theater 3000
-
Scrubs
Malcolm in the Middle
American Dad is good too.
-
Beverly Hillbillys. How can you call it a theme song without a banjo?
-
Silver Bullet, did those shows have to interrupt broadcasting because of the Civil War?
A-Team
Knight Rider
-
The Avengers is a great theme song.
Get Smart was quite good (and not just because Don Adams just died)
Truly the GREATEST TV theme song of all time, as far as I'm concerned?
The theme to Peter Gunn, by Henry Mancini.
The show only lasted 3 years. The first time I ever heard the theme music was on the old video arcade game Spy Hunter.
-
Gilligans Island
SWAT
The Love Boat
All 70's all the time!
-
I always liked the themes from 'Have Gun - Will Travel' and 'The Andy Griffith Show', but I mostly prefer to forget the tv shows of my own youth.
James
-
Im going to add High Chaparral. I seem to have a preference for Westerns theme songs.
Beverly Hillbillys. How can you call it a theme song without a banjo?
Good point. Was it Flatt and Scruggs that did that song ?
The theme to Peter Gunn, by Henry Mancini.
Great choice.
Gilligans Island
Huh ? Worst combination: A bad, catchy song that bugs you for hours. Kinda like Mighty Mouse.
Silver Bullet, did those shows have to interrupt broadcasting because of the Civil War?
? That one went over my head.
Some of the other nominations are too young for me. I quit watching tv from about 1995 through 2003, except for the occasional sporting event. I watched very little from 1970 through 1995. Now Im watching Alias, 24, Numb3rs, Medium.

FIREFLY!
-
Star Trek: The Next Generation
-
No question because I can rap the whole song:
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air
-
Starsky & Hutch second season.
Welcome Back Kotter
Sanford & Son
Miami Vice
Crime Story
No question because I can rap the whole song:
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air
"I rolled up to the house about seven or eight and I yelled to the cabbie yo homes smell ya later":D
-
Some of the jazz jams that the Cosby Show used (especially the Bobby McFerrin one) were meritorious.
Hangin' with Mr. Cooper: (reminiscent of the Gap Band and the Bootsy Collins/George Clinton funk juggernaut)
Gilligan and Andy Griffith are the classics.
and the current winner: Firefly.
-
Hill Street Blues and Hogan's Heroes
-
The greatest show in town is Huckleberry Hound......
-
Yikes ! That's another catchy one.
-
On this board no one picked The Brady Bunch?
-
? That one went over my head.
Stop pretending. I said that because young wipper-snappers like me have never seen those shows, and only old fogies like you remember 'em.
-
Babylon 5, all seasons (different music for each season)
-
I said that because young wipper-snappers like me have never seen those shows,
I directly attribute smart-alecky-ness in our youths to not having watched The Rifleman and Bonanza.
-

Okay, I get it now; good one! Looking back, almost all of my nominations are from the '60s.
-
I directly attribute smart-alecky-ness in our youths to not having watched The Rifleman and Bonanza.
I can guarantee you that's true. Look at the facts: he picked Knight Rider over Rifleman and Bonanza.
-
What's green and carries a rifle?
Mucus McCain...
Addams Family, Simpsons, uuuhhhhh...
Petticoat Junction,,,Batman,,,The Green Hornet (Flight of the Bumblebee / Al Hirt on his trumpet, does anyone remember Al Hirt?),,,uuuuhhhh....Johnny Quest
Me? OLD? NAAAHHH...
LOL....
-
Actually, Rifleman was one of my dad's favorite shows.
I didn't say Knight Rider was better, but it is pretty slammin'.
-
Actually, Rifleman was one of my dad's favorite shows.
See! There he goes being a smart-aleck again....
-
If you haven't heard "The Professionals" theme-tune, you frankly haven't lived. Oh, and "Man In A Suitcase". Remember that?

Pink Panther!!
Besides the cartoons, I mean the Pink Panther is sooo Cool
The Peter Seller Movies...Rent "A Shot in the Dark"...be sure to get one with the out-takes.
-
I'm surprised someone else remembers Mannix.
Pink Panther -- another Henry Mancini tune. I didn't include it because I wasn't thinking of the cartoon, only the movie.
-
Did i ever mention that as a kid I played viola in the CT All State Orchestra with guest conductor - HENRY MANCINI !! I had no idea who he was at the time...
-
That is pretty Cool!
Beats having the Mama and Papas come play at your Jr High... I'd rather had been in shop class.
Mannix was cool, drove a Barracuda , and his secretary was sharp as a tack. [What was her name?]
I mean even I could forgive Mannix for driving a Mopar....
Bob Hope Show, Texaco Hour and all his shows. "Thanks for the Memories". I met him when he was in town once, he did a great show, and a real personable fellow.
How did we forget...
The Lone Ranger?
Red Skelton show
Milton Beryl [Uncle Miltie]
Bonanza
Perry Mason [ B/W]
Ironsides
Streets of San Francisco
Happy Days
Rockford Files
Rowan & Martin Laugh-In
Original Saturday Night Live
Wolfman Jack and the Saturday Night Special
Andy Griffith Show
Sigh...
Met Al Hirt and Pete Fountain down in Nawlins...Of all folks to show up and Jam...Leon Russell...someone had to tickle the ivories...
-
Mannix was cool, drove a Barracuda
What ? Modified Toronado:
http://www.jmannix.net/cars.htm
and here:
http://www.jmannix.net/roadster.htm
-
Scroll down on those sites.
I recall the 'Cuda, the Challenger, the Camero, and the Colt DS.
-
You're right. I think I only remembered the Toronado because I used to have it as a Ravell (or somebody's) plastic car model.
I didn't remember that the show ran for so many seasons.
They sure dumped on the secretary: a Simca, a Cricket, and a Vega.
-
Ha! Boy didn't they! I was thinking the same thing.
At least in the old Cowboy shows the ladies had "nice rides" - real nice horses, or ponies.
In the modern shows the ladies gets some piece of junk.
-
Very cool: they have the Mannix theme on that site:
http://www.jmannix.net/sounds.htm
Unfortunately, I can't play it because I refuse to have Real Player on my computer.
-
"We are poor little lambs who have lost our way...Baa baa baa."
My Mom got me the DVD set of Black Sheep Squadron for my birthday. Very cool...
-
Nobody suggested Magnum PI? Unbelieveable.
-
"Black Sheep Squadron" : great show, I'm not a fan of the theme song.
On this board no one picked The Brady Bunch?
Correct.
As Jim and Fig mentioned earlier: Firefly.
-
+1 for Hawaii Five-0
+1 for Johnny Quest
+1 for Firefly
+1 Babylon 5
Magnum PI
Venture Brothers
Galaxy Rangers
Robotech
Themes used over the years for WWF/WWE Monday Night Raw
-
NCIS has a cool tune, but my all-time fave is The A-Team. That's my cell phone ring!
-
I can't believe nobody mentioned:
77 Sunset Strip.
-
You can believe it; that's late '50s.
That was my second favorite show back then, after Zorro.
Note to fistful: That's the 1950s I'm talking about, not the 1850s !
-
Hong Kong Phooey
The Jeffersons
The Benny Hill Show
Sanford & Son - may have been the best ever
-
Babylon 5, notably season three. (Point of No Return)
Farscape, also season three. (Season of Death)
Battlestar Galactica (current production).
NYPD Blue
Monty Pythons Flying Circus
Dr. Who, the Peter Davidson & Colin Baker years. Fans should also see this site, http://www.whomix.trilete.net/

And after all these replys no one mentioned......
The Dukes of Hazzard.
-
The Dukes of Hazzard
-
50 posts and no one mentioned "Green Acres" ... ? The all-time funniest show ever ...
Gotta agree with the guy who said "Crime Story" -- a superb Michael Mann show, however short-lived, but that opening song ("Runaway" by Del Shannon) was positively awesome in combination with the opening scenes.
-
The one that sticks out in my head as the best classic one is Hogans Hero's.
Stopthegreys, I'll give a big +1 to Robotech. I confess to being a geek and admit I still get a chill when I hear that one start up.

That would be me
I agree, Michael Mann has a way of mixing music and visuals that is just fantastic. Wasn't really a theme song, but who can forget Crockett & Tubbs charging off into the night to Phil Collins "In the Air Tonight".
-
Blast yourselves into the past
http://www.melaman2.com/tvshows/
I like the theme to Underdog.
-
Wow, great find, Waitone, now everyone can judge for themselves.
I listened to all of my nominees (except Mannix, which wasn't included), and I'm most impressed with Mission Impossible and Star Trek: The Next Generation. Some of the others I remembered fondly sounded a little tinny or cheesy or just thin after forty years.
-
VR-5
-
I'm having mixed feelings about the Green Hornet theme song. I listened to it on the site Waitone posted. On the one hand, the trumpet part that Al Hirt plays (the "bumblebee" that begins the song) is terrific, it just soars. On the other hand, the secondary melody (which also sounds like horns) is about as schlocky as they come, typical for late '60s and early '70s tv shows and low-budget movies. Oh, well, it was exciting back in '66.
-
My turn.
Green Acres
Banana Splits
H.R. Puff-N-Stuff
The Goodies
My Three Sons
Sanford & Son
Rockford Files
Space: 1999
Miami Vice

The OC (weak show, but it's about the theme music...)
My favorite alien schpoo at the time:
