The theme to Peter Gunn, by Henry Mancini.
The show only lasted 3 years. The first time I ever heard the theme music was on the old video arcade game Spy Hunter.

At least in the old Cowboy shows the ladies had "nice rides" - real nice horses, or ponies.

That would be me I agree, Michael Mann has a way of mixing music and visuals that is just fantastic. Wasn't really a theme song, but who can forget Crockett & Tubbs charging off into the night to Phil Collins "In the Air Tonight".

I listened to all of my nominees (except Mannix, which wasn't included), and I'm most impressed with Mission Impossible and Star Trek: The Next Generation. Some of the others I remembered fondly sounded a little tinny or cheesy or just thin after forty years.
