Led Zep: How the West Was Won
« on: August 31, 2008, 06:09:48 PM »
Has anyone else listened to this album ?  I bought it four years ago at the same time I bought Led Zep DVD.  The dvd is so fantastic that I ignored the live cd.

Lately I started listening to it, and holy s**t !

I can't believe how good it is, and I used to listen to The Song Remains the Same a lot.  (Well, 30 years ago).

I heard Heartbreaker a couple times on the radio, and it was amazing.  I thought, gee, I'll bet that came off How the West Was Won.  Maybe I should listen to that.  (I don't listen to music much anymore ... at least, not like I did 30 years ago ...).  So, I loaded it into iTunes from my CD.  I soon discovered that the live songs from the Houses of the Holy album are ... to ... die ... for !!!!

First, I got into The Ocean.  Then, I discovered that the live version of Over the Hills and Far Away was unbelievable, much more exciting than the somewhat understated (for Zep) album version.

But now ... nothing rocks me like the version of Dancing Days on that album.  I had to listen to it a few times to get in its groove, but now it exceeds anything else I've heard.

Highly recommended if you're a Zep fan.

Yup.

I'm real close to hitting the end of the useful life of a quartet of 6550 pentodes on just that album alone.  Wink

Strangely enough, right about the time you were compiling this post I was finishing up watching Zep play Royal Albion live in 1970.

A plan is just a list of things that doesn't happen.
Is defenestration possible through the overton window?
