[2] The final bird is small enough that it can be stuffed with a single olive; it also suggests that, unlike modern multi-bird roasts, there was no stuffing or other packing placed in between the birds. This dish probably could not be legally recreated in the modern era as many of the listed birds are now protected species.

I was pretty unimpressed by the fried turkey I had. I think if more people were good at cooking it the traditional way there would be less demand for that.


Whoever cooked it must not've done it right, then. There's more to the exercise than banging a turkey into hot oil and hoisting it out later.

And 45-55 minutes to fry versus several hours to bake in the oven is a strong selling point, at least for me and Miss Priss. She can do other things with the oven, like make pies, while I'm frying the bird.

Somebody messed it up, then.

Our family absolutely refuses to have baked turkey again after I deep fried the first one. 

I did stuff a Cornish Game Hen inside the turkey one Thanksgiving, to mess with my little nephew's head.

He almost broke into tears, until I asked him if he thought turkeys laid eggs like any other bird...  =D

Based on the title, I stayed away from this thread until I'd amassed a decent stockpile of heavy-soled shoes...
