old $50 bill. (You do know US currency has gone through a couple of changes over the past few years, right?) Clerk thought the bill was fake. Cops weren't smart enough to think otherwise. Evidence tech told the cops to have it checked at a bank - they went to two - before they were convinced it was real and they could get a judicial commissioner to release the guy who'd been sitting in a cell all this time.
