New video camera is tiny and cheap! Game changer?

A thumb-sized recorder for $25? How is this not going to be everywhere?

I know this thread sounds very spammish, but rest assured I'm not connected to this item in anyway.

There are a lot of uses for this. Many good. But there are a lot of dbags and bowlstains out there that will put this to perverted use or ewvil as I like to call it.

Really small cheap spy cameras have been around for a while now.  DealExtreme has a decent selection, like this working pen+VGA quality camera+4 gig drive for $26.66 shipped!

Might just be the thing for recording myself shooting USPSA matches and horrifying all my non-gunnie Facebook friends.

Of course, I'd have to get off my tuckus and actually get out and shoot some USPSA this year.  =|
I promise not to duck.

Interesting, thanks. I've been thinking about picking up a cheap video recorder for a bit, I seem to always end up using my point and shoot for video instead of pics.

There is a (shrunken) youtube video taken with the camera on the page

That sized camera has been around for quite some time.  That's not the big news.  It's that the quality is getting better, the batteries more efficient and the price is dropping.

Folks wonder why I dislike traffic cameras so much.   Because they (and storage media) are only getting better and cheaper.

I can't get past the idea that cheap, highly desirable, gadgets like this could be loaded with Chinese trojans and worms.  Could be an ideal vector...

Indeed, but it would be fairly hard to activate them, or miss them when using the item.

Ordered one! Looked too cool to pass up. I'll post a review in a week or so when it comes in and I get time to play with it.

I think it would be something that would download to your PC when you connect it while downloading video.

Good gravy.  We need a little more tinfoil in this thread.

It might be fun to try one of these in a rocket.  It looks small and light enough to fly.  The video resolution and quality isn't bad.  I wonder how rugged they are?
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

Good gravy.  We need a little more tinfoil in this thread.

Why is it tinfoil?  The Chinese are known for their industrial and technological espionage.  They're also known for their cyber warfare capabilities.  What better way to increase all of these by selling desirable computer connected trinkets to people.  Sell a few thousand of these with a trojan payload and you could have one heck of a botnet.  You might even harvest some tasty intel if the purchaser uses them on a sensitive system.

Stranger things have happened.  Or did you forget Sony's rootkit?

Sony's rootkit was not nearly as "strange" as what you're suggesting.

Please youtube video if you do it, that would be sweet.  Worst case scenario you are out $30.

Heh.  Except some folks actually DO have infosec concerns, beyond general desire for privacy.  Hell, not letting US become the next UK would be a valid enough concern.

Realistically, as this kind of tech improves, it will become very difficult to counter on a practical level unless you require everyone to walk through an extremely strong HERF field going in and out of businesses, government buildings or your own home.

If I understand correctly, Sony's rootkit nonsense was well-intended, but too easy to abuse.  mtnbkr is talking about intentional mischief by the Chinese military-industrial complex.

And ya know, it doesn't sound all that strange to me.

Wasn't there a big to do recently where Chinese built hard drives sold to the US .gov were sending information back home?
