It's based on the very racist comic strip of the same name.

All I will say is that if it were about white kids, instead of black kids, I predict there would be riots coast to coast.

I've always thought that McGruder is a helluva good sketch artist with a distinct style.

Too bad he's an idiot.

I've thought the same for years, Mike.

Same on that count too, Justin.

Shucks, I'm really starting to regret giving up TV.  You mean I could have watched the Boondocks on the Cartoon Network tonight?  Shucks.

Sometimes I get a good laught out of the Boondock's cartoon in the newspaper- sometimes its so liberal its ironically a parody of liberal ideas, but I'm pretty sure the irony is lost on the cartoonist.

Boondocks is one of my favorites.  Yeah, he's utterly relentless on Bush, but there's no one-left, right, black, white-who doesn't get bloodied.  I don't mind hearing viewpoints different from mine if they're smart and funny.  I think McGruder gets the irony.

Grandpa cracks me up.  They just did a series where their New Orleans relatives came to stay with them.  Yeah, McGruder gets it.

Boondocks (the comic strip) may be racist but I suspect not. The characters have a variety of views.

Grandpa is your typical old guy and if the artist colored him white no one would no the difference. He's way more grounded in reality (to be expected) than his grandsons and is a bit conservative. The way he reacted to his visiting Katrina relatives cracked me up. The fact that it's granddad and not grandmaw raising the kids is a big positive in my eyes. IMO one of the major problems with black culture is that 60% or more of black kids are born out of wedlock and have no real father figure in their lives. The author of the strip is making a statement by having granddad raising the kids.

Huey the oldest grandson is the stereotypical angry young black man - moderated by his grandpappy and his middle class lifestyle. He wants to be pissed off but somehow just can't seem to get it right.

The youngest grandson is a typical kid influenced by his big brother.

All in all I enjoy the strip - it's one of the 5 I read every morning and though it may not be the eye on black culture that some portray it to be it is funny and if racist just barely so.

As far as the cartoon show goes the commercial shown for it have been so blatantly racist that I've chosen not to watch it so far but might give it a shot. Who knows it might turn out to be enjoyable.

Blatant racist crap - don't read it in the paper - won't watch it on TV.  If it had white characters speaking thusly of blacks, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would be picketing the network's headquarters.

I read the comic strip daily.  I am frequently annoyed by it, but it is usually funny and thought provoking.

The ones with the NO relatives were pretty good, as are the current ones about the bird flu.  As for protesting, numerous papers have refused to run certain Boondock strips, so there is no shortage of protest.

I think it's pretty funny. I take it as tongue in cheek.

Am I supposed to take them seriously?
