Gasoline - how much per month?
« on: May 22, 2011, 09:31:32 AM »
I was running around $160/month. Now I'm in the $200 range. That's for an '88 F150 4x4.  Does that seem high, comparatively? What do y'all pay, if I may be so bold?

I'm thinking about buying a neighbor's old Toyota Tercel for a daily driver and parking the pickup for awhile.

Now that I'm working I'm averaging one fill up a week, about $70 for $280 a month. Wife's consumption is about the same.  Grand total is $550 a month easily.

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

Holy mackerel, y'all! :O

I think I will hold off on the car purchase. After titling, registering, insuring, maintenance, and all that jazz I would only end up saving probably 10-15%. Seems like it's not worth all the hassle.
Yet.

Working from home, I put on few miles. I'll fill up the Mustang about once a month. Last time around was $46 back on 4/19. (Of course, the car only gets 12 mpg with the A/C on).

My beater Saturn I'll also fill once every four to six weeks. That usually runs $25 to $30.

The amounts some of you are paying for gas would really put a crimp in my budget.

My truck will be paid off in under a year.  Then, I'm picking up a car (hyundai elentra most likely....prius mileage without the gay hybrid motor).

+1, Monkeyleg.

With our little Hyundai, I'm probably hitting between $60 - $80 per month.  That's if I don't make a trip to LA for SWMBO's medical stuff.  The last trip ran about $75 for gas, round trip.  She'll be calling to set up another appointment tomorrow.

$40 per day X 5 days a week = $800 per month.  That's not including the gas for my lawn service equipment.

I drive a 2011 Dodge Ram 2500HD with the 5.7L Hemi.  I briefly considered buying an economy car, but then 95% of my driving requires the use of my truck, so I would not be saving anything.

Maybe $100 a month; I'm not really sure.  I only fill up the truck every couple of months, but it seems like I'm always putting $30 worth in the Cadillac.  I don't drive much except to goto work and to church, and I'm starting to ride my bicycle more for errands.  The weather is just starting to get nice; I'm gonna start riding it to work a couple of time a week.  I did that last year and it worked out pretty well, just wear a dirty shirt and change into a clean one when I get there.

Wife drives a Ford Focus that averages over 30 mph and gets 41 on the highway.  I don't know what she spends on gas, i just make the car payments.

Around $400/mo for me. My average monthly driving is a 30 mile daily round trip to work, a couple of 500 mile round trip drives, and then maybe a few of hundred miscellaneous miles per month for errands and local recreation. Then throw in two or three ~1000 mile trips a year for fishing and hunting.

This thread inspired me to look into it and I found I'm we are spending $250-$350 per month. It surprised me it was so much. Since we live close to our shopping, the absolute only places we drive are work and church. We both have about a 10 mile commute. She gets 18mpg, I get 14. That's not good mileage but with such a short commute it surprises me we spend so much. Many people I work with commute 25 miles or more.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

$80-100/month. I've got a short commute, but I do more driving in the summer. It'll go up a bit soon.

I'm looking to get a new(er) vehicle soonish, and I'm factoring in gas costs heavily. Already ruled out a truck, to my dismay, and most SUV's.

The 2011-'12 models I've been looking at:
Full-size
Kia Optima
Hyundai Sonata
Toyota Camry
Honda Accord
Ford Fusion

Compact
Kia Forte
Hyundai Elantra
Toyota Corolla/Toyota Matrix
Honda Civic
Ford Focus

Sub-compact
Kia Rio
Hyundai Accent
Toyota Yaris
Honda Fit
Ford Fiesta

Compact SUV
Kia Sportage
Hyundai Tucson
Toyota Rav4
Honda CR-V
Ford Escape
Subaru Forester

60-70 gallons a month, total cost varies - especially with this effing $4+ gas in recent weeks. At least the car gets 23 mpg instead of 15.

About $250 a month.

Dodge Ram 1500 4.7L V8.

I work from home 4 days a week, but in the evenings and weekends I do most of my driving for socialization reasons.  I can cut down on that to save a few bucks if I need to.  Just paid off the truck so I'm $350/month ahead on my budget after that.

It varies widely from < $100 to > $200 depending on how much we have to drive.

Also depends on the weather and road conditions whether we can drive our 30mpg car or the 15mpg 4wd Suburban.

It cost a lot when my wife had to drive the Suburban to take me to/from the airport (120 mile round trip).  But then at least I was making lots of money.

I've got a grueling 4 mile round trip commute. I spend more on lawn mower gas and tractor diesel in the summer.
