When people said the world is flat.

When people said that God is dead.

When we were told that anthropogenic climate change is established science.

When we were told Barack Obama deserved the Nobel Prize.

When we were told the mainstream media is neutral, honest, and on a quest for truth.

amusing, that after years of manufacturing fake or altered news,  the MSM feels the necessity to preach against their own product.

False flag operation by politicized CIA hacks. The Russians are too sophisticated to leave "fingerprints" of their presence. The CIA intentionally left behind "evidence".
Either that or it was aliens.

Is that like a double negative? You know, as in "It ain't not ..." means it is. So does a fake fake mean it's really genuine?

I'm sooooo confused...

Would fake news be like "Benghazi was caused by by a video" or "I did not have any classified intel on my private server" ?
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

Technically, those were both statements by a certain, former Secretary of State. "News" would be reporting that she said that. "Fake news" would be reporting that either statement had any validity.

The National Propaganda Machine, aka Mainstream Media, has lost its monopoly on the citizenry's information consumption to low-cost independent mass information sharing via the internet.

"Fake News" is the operational strategy for their (political establishment/elite, reference DNC emails dictating weekly agenda and talking points to MSM networks) current information warfare campaign whose purpose is to simultaneously discredit the independent information sharing (to limit current damage to their campaign) and build a false-public-narative/mandate to push unconstitutional legislation to permanently silence the same (thus reestablishing their information monopoly.)

Previously this monopoly was maintained by the exorbitant cost of creating and operating a national/international news organization, like so many other things that are simply priced out of competition. The low-cost/any-size-audience aspect of the internet has rendered this impediment moot.

Why do they act like this is a new thing? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_journalism and why can't we call it yellow journalism, since we've already got that term, instead of "fake news"?

Because the people screaming "fake news!" are the yellow journalists.

Well, of course I know that "yellow journalism" has been around since before Hearst, but this is the first time I've heard the "fake news" term applied to alternative net sources.  It sounds like a recent invention of the left to control the language.

Assault weapon
Arsenal/cache of weapons
Thousands of rounds of ammunition
Could take out a whole city block
Deplorables
Gun-wielding redneck
Bambi killer
Reliable news sources

Semantics count.  And they know it.

Terry

Linguistic Relativity is a thing and plays a major roll in manipulating a person's psychology.

Best personal example was an Army SSGT was giving me weapons instruction and he changed the wording of one of the four rules. Instead of "never point the gun at anything you are not willing to destroy," it became "never point the gun at anyone you are not willing to kill." While the former phrase technically carried the same definition as the latter phrase, the latter had/has a much greater impact on the mind as it pulls you from a general concept of destruction and killing to the very specific concept of ending another person's life.

For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.
