For over five years, my wife has been working at an utterly mindless, low-paying job for a major bank. The supervisors and department managers are absolutely fruitloops, the rules (no open-toed shoes, etc) are mind-boggling, and she's hated it. She's hated it so much that she gets depressed on her days off, knowing that she will have to go back in a day or two.
The only reason she was there was for the insurance. Previously, we'd had an individual policy, but the premiums rose out of sight.
On Friday night, she's going to give her notice. I've never seen her so happy.
She'll be going to work for the plumbing/heating company that her sister and her sister's husband started not long ago. It's growing so fast that there's no way her sister can keep up, and still raise two young children.
My wife will be making more money, and she'll even be able to wear open-toed shoes!
I'm just so happy for her that I had to post this.

Congrats to her! It's always crappy watching people work jobs they hate. Seems a nothing but bad news has been cropping up lately, so this is great to hear.

Congrats. Wish I could have made it over to meet you two yesterday.
I hope she's very happy with the new position!

I know what you mean. My wife was working for a construction company doing payroll and it was a whipping for her. All the guys, which was 95% were jerks to all the women because as they say, its a mans business....whatever....
Anyway, she got a job at Southwest Airlines last year and just loves it. Cant beat the benefits and in case you have not seen....they posted HUGE profits today in their quarterly annoucement.
Congrats to your wife!

Like I said last night Dick: good for her!
BTW: we're having a house-warming party/wedding reception next saturday, which might be including a range session. You and the missus are invited (if she doesn't want to shoot, maybe Spoon could take her shoe shopping?)...

What is it about working in financial institutions that make so many people want to open their veins?
I worked for Navy Federal Credit Union for 3.5 years before I couldn't take it any more. The benefits were GREAT, but the pay and atmosphere were just horrific.
We actually did have one guy commit suicide while I was there...
Glad to hear that she's going to be in a better situation.

What? No invites for the rest of us?
FINE!
No spicy buffalo chicken dip for you!

Awesom, tell her congrats! I've had my fair share of working in toxic environments and I am not talking about chemicals. Glad things are on the up and up.

280 quietly begins removing funds from his NFCU accounts and shifting them to hopefully less neurotic financial institutions...

Oh and congrats to the wife and well wishes to her newly freed toes!

Congratulations.
I know a little something about holding on to a job longer that you would normally, because of health insurance.
