Anyone know what these little triangular windows are called?

I used to have a 1958 Chevy TRUCK that had the roundish (not triangular) vent wing windows that were wider at the top than at the bottom. The windshield wrapped around the sides.

I would have never gotten rid of it except that in Colorado at that time the commercial license plate and insurance just to legally drive it across the street cost as much or more than it was worth at the time. It had utility boxes, a huge PTO winch, and quick up/down A-frame that reached about 25' high.

I love it when young folks bring up stuff like this. =D I recall one of my grandkids when they were fairly small looking at Lynn when she was putting a 45 rpm record on an old machine we had, and saying that it was sure a weird looking CD. =D

that's the window you push in to get the keys/unlock the door. No one ever locks them.

Interesting, mine are always latched. I locked my keys in that car over the summer, and the tow guy didn't even try those windows. Incidentally, I was amused with the difficulty he had getting that car door open. Turns out that doors made out of steel don't flex much. I was less amused at the price.

Upon doing some further digging, wikipedia notes: "This [The 1983-1991 Ford LTD Crown Victoria] was the last American car to offer functional vent windows as an option."

My Cherokee had them. They were awesome. I miss my Jeep. :'(
I vaguely recall it was a '91? or thereabouts. Maybe they're distinguishing between cars and trucks/suvs?

Yeah, they were awesome. Sucked the smoke and ash right out, and you could still stay warm.

He didn't want to break your windows. I have always heard that security (due to unlocked vent windows) was one reason they were discontinued. Cost-cutting would probably be the main reason.

The newest vehicle I owned that had them was a 84 Suburban I had. They were great you could open them up and stay nice a cool driving down the highway and not get the wind gust like an open window. I also miss kick panel vents too.

Well, as a child in the 1950s, my brother and I called them wind glasses.

My '92 Cherokee has them.
Little wing vent story. I had a 1954 Chevy pick up that was my daily driver at the time. No AC of course. I would run with the wing vents cranked all the way open on both sides. One warm summer morning on the way to work I drove through a swarm of bees. Must have pulled a couple of hundred in through the wing vents. I managed to get off the highway get it shut off and exit the truck with out getting stung.

And floor mounted dimmers.
I don't know about anyone else, but I hate the 15 function dimmer/wiper/signal/cruise levers we have these days.

my 95 has triangular windows but they don't open wonder if i could get an older door and swap

Not to mention a jillion buttons on the steering wheel to be accidently pressed when you are backing or tight quarters manuevering :mad:
