Possible significant breakthrough in nanotechnology

They're soft, strong, and very, very long.

Large, transparent sheets of carbon nanotubes can now be produced at lightning speed. The new technique should allow the nanotubes to be used in commercial devices from heated car windows to flexible television screens

Ain't technology wunnerful?

Cover your house with it and make instant Christmas lights that you can see from space. More efficient batteries. Incredible flat-screen televison walls.  Heated walls in buildings at low voltage.

I'm gonna sit up nights thinking of cool stuff. I'd better stop while I'm ahead.

Incredible flat-screen televison walls.
Or incredible microscreens for minature electronic devices, I would imagine.

It has all kinds of uses. This is basically a new type of material and could revolutionize things in the same ways plastics have. Neat stuff..

Much more likely, yes.  Esp. since they're saying they want to use it with OLED's.  OLED technology still has some major limitations.

Me, I want to ride up on a carbon nanotube space elevator.

That would be creepy and the mental picture I have of it is way too Doctor Suess like..

I'm surprised there isn't more interest in this. It could be huge.

Nanotubes technically isn't a nanotech.  Nanotechnology generally refers to very small machines.  Not that this isn't any less cool, since a carbon nanotube is a totally new form of carbon.  I can see this stuff being put out in a fiber form and woven to create a superior bulletproof vest.
