Serial bank robber with strange pistol: http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/08/25/serial.bank.robber/index.html

Tam http://booksbikesboomsticks.blogspot.com/2009/08/whats-wrong-with-this-picture.html is having fun with asking folks to see what's wrong with his pistol (besides the way he holds it, OK?).

Thought folks might like to add to the fun.

stay safe.

He limp-wristed it or held onto the slide while loading it.

Is it out of battery?  It's hard to tell.

I was thinking it might be out of battery as well.  The barrel is a sticking out a bit.  Not sure if that is normal or not.

Also, what is it that appears to be in front of the trigger?  Is there a trigger lock on this thing and it just looks like his finger is on the trigger?

The discussion on one of the links mentioned the rear sight is unusual as well though it is a bit unclear.

Definitely out of battery. Can't see anything else wrong, though.

What is that in front of the trigger?  Is that just a really big, thick trigger guard?

On Tamara's post, I first keyed on the protruding muzzle.  It took a moment to notice the dust cover and rear of the slide.  I don't recognize the pistol, wonder if he's been caught with his dingus down, too.

The gubmint outlawed ski masks because they were used in too many violent crimes.

Short sleeves with all the identifying tattoos is probably not a good idea either.  =)

I think we need to correctly identify the gun so we can tell if the barrel should protrude from the front before we say it is out of battery.
IMO I have no idea what that gun is, maybe a toy?

Over at Tam's site everybody is agreeing it is a Taurus Millenium  http://www.taurususa.com/gun-selector-results.cfm?series=MP1&toggle=tp

My eyes are old and not to be trusted, so I'm not going to speculate which of the possible models it might be.  I'm guessing that "fin with a hole in it" is an artifact created by the specific perspective and some object in close proximity.  I'm not 'puter-savvy enough to blow up a picture and see a closer view.

Now, let's get back to the games.

stay safe.

Almost looks like the slide is mounted backwards on the frame.

You're going to laugh, but he seems to have it pointed at himself!

The picture is too small, but the part pointed sorta at the teller looks like an external hammer, and below it is a dovetail-ish butt.  Is his finger even on the trigger?  Most of the grip seems to be in front of his hand, and the slide on his side seems to be even with the frame.  If it weren't for the ejection port I'd be sure it was backwards, or 'shopped.

Weird.

Also, did anyone else see the design on his shirt and think "That's one Red Shirt who won't just go away"?    =D

Besides not being in battery, it still looks like something is flaky in front of the trigger guard.  I'll go look up a pic of the Taurus, but the one our rocket surgeon has looks as if it has some sort of fairing in that area.  Is there some sort of light or laser that looks like that?

I kinda noticed the ejection port was on the wrong side but dismissed it as just being a left handed gun.
