A plan is just a list of things that doesn't happen.
Is defenestration possible through the overton window?

I buy Thinkpads direct from Lenovo, or higher-end (but a couple of years old) lease-returns from IBM.  Usually pay about $400.  I can see what's available if you want.

Thanks guys ... I'm hoping to find one for under $300 w/ 15" screen ... it may be wishful thinking ... two weeks ago I was getting ads on my home page for Win7 Laptops for $274 ... now that I've decided to look at them they're all $100 more ... ever since Windows 8.1 was forced onto my machine it has been almost useless on any news sites ... works fine here and other sites w/o advertising ...

IBM has used T420's for under $400, and a T410 for $296.  The best deal looks like a T420 with a i5-2520M processor, 8GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive for $307.  All of them are 14" screen Windows 7 Professional.  Let me check Lenovo for new 15"...

ETA: New 15" laptops from Lenovo start about $600, and a Win 7 downgrade is still available but $50 extra.  (I only looked at a couple of models)

Thanks for the help all ... I ended up buying the one in the link below ... I'm sure there are better out there but I think I'll get a couple years out of it ... the one I'm typing on now is fading fast.  I didn't want to find myself in the position of trying to shop for a laptop w/o a computer ... I'll pick up more ram for it as soon as I get a chance to do an online memory evaluation.  Thanks again.
