Apparently some sneetches need to learn a lesson about the star on their bellies.

New copies have already been scrubbed from Amazon.
Entertainingly to me, that USA Today article has a sample of 10 Seuss political cartoons with the "racial imagery or overtones" and it all seems to be for equality and early globalisim, the kind of things the leftists should support.
-
I'm to the point now where I just assume everything is racist unless a sufficiently woke person explains why it isn't.
-
What's sad is that it isn't even someone like Amazon refusing to carry them (something I have been ranting about), but actually Dr Suess Enterprises stopping their publication. If they aren't even published, people don't have the opportunity to make up their own minds on the books. Dr Suess must be spinning regarding the entity that was created to preserve his legacy being the one who folded on the cancel culture.
-
IIRC they started attacking Theodor Seuss Geisel aka Dr. Seuss back in the 90s over this stuff. Guess it flared back up again.
-
The memory hole is voracious and is never satisfied ... feed me...
-
I was unaware that today was his birthday and that he has historically been mentioned by Presidents as part of "Read Across America Day". Even Obama praised him. Looks like 46 shined him on:

I've only heard of the "If I Ran A Zoo" title. I agree with Ben with it being sad that they aren't even publishing them to allow people to make up their own minds.
-
If I remember right Suess was a big lefty.

And prices on evilbay are through the roof

Maybe this is why he got canceled:

Universal Orlando ‘evaluating’ its Dr. Seuss-themed area after book backlash

First, a different web site for Universal Annual Pass Holders says they have no plans to eliminate Dr. Suess land. Apparently they fielded a ton of calls and emails today in support of the land.
Second, this may (hopefully) signal the start of the end of this cancel crap. People who haven't cared much about cancel culture, like my wife, are expressing significant anger about this one. People love Dr. Suess books. This one's not going away easily. I see friends posting video of Jessie Jackson reading Green Eggs and Ham on SNL. Pictures of Michelle Obama reading the books to kids. I hope this fight drags out.
-
I am confused, which seems to happen quite often these day, but how many Dr Seuess books have actual people in them? I mean they have Grinches and Sneetches and Whos and such, even green eggs and hambut how many have people. This crap is out of control.
My 2 cents

Pictures of Obama doing the okay gesture and yet it's somehow now a white supremacist gesture. Apparently a raised fist is too if a white person does it now.

Yes; so is his widow. The central theme of Horton Hears a Who is "A person's a person, no matter how small." It's a great line; or at least it was until pro-lifers embraced it. The Geisels were pissed; I think they even sued some folks over it.
-
The fact that Dr Suess was a raging lefty says more about this than any attack on a conservative ever could. I'm waiting for them to start banning books by John F Kennedy. After all, "Profiles in Courage" is pretty patriarchal, no?

Thoughts that have not been approved by the central committee are not allowed.
“In some cases, it seems like people are coming up with their own sort of customized belief systems—a little bit of this, a little bit of that—and they put it together maybe combined with some personal grievance or something that’s happened in their lives,” he said. “Trying to get your arms around that is a real challenge.”
The Constitutionalist in me wonders why the government feels a need to "get [its] arms around" what I'm thinking, and why it believes that if I think differently than a liberal Democrat I must be classified as a terrorist. Heaven forfend that an individual might presume to take input from multiple sources and synthesize it all into a uniquely personal belief.

Ebay will not allow the sale of used copies of the six books.

I *almost* bought used copies on Amazon the day this came out, and now I really wish I had. I suspect the value will go stupid high soon.
-
We have a five of the six banned books in my wife's collection from her childhood. Well used copies, along with all of the other books. I guess I could sell the set and buy a box or two of 9mm ball...
-
Too late to sell them. They were going for a couple thousand apiece yesterday. Now the selling web sites won't allow them to be sold because they are "inappropriate".

When they finally "cancel" MLK, by name, will people figure out what's going on here?

I hate to say it, but no they won't.

New York Public Library Will Not Pull ‘Canceled’ Dr. Seuss Titles, Says It ‘Does Not Censor Books’

... instead, will keep the books in circulation until the existing copies are worn out.
... will keep the controversial titles in circulation until they are no longer in suitable shape to lend out
... will continue to circulate until they are no longer in acceptable condition
That is an awfully interesting thing to keep repeating.
“The library will keep them in circulation until someone destroys these books.. It would be a real shame if someone trashed them because they can’t be replaced.. For instance, if you were to check out one of the few copies and drop it into a river or spill your coffee on it ....”

You gotta know some group of libprogs will do just exactly that.

In all the brouhaha over Dr. Seuss Enterprises’ decision to pull six of Theodor Geisel’s books because they’re “hurtful,” a lot of people have been pointing to other of his works. What about “The Sneetches”? The book in which the creatures with stars on their bellies and those without decide to overlook the difference and get along?
Okay, sounds harmless enough.
But according to Gabriel Smith of Teaching Tolerance
In light of this new information, you may wonder about Dr. Seuss books featuring non-human characters. At Teaching Tolerance, we’ve even featured anti-racist activities built around the Dr. Seuss book The Sneetches. But when we re-evaluated, we found that the story is actually not as “anti-racist” as we once thought. And it has some pretty intricate layers you and your students might consider, too.
The solution to the story’s conflict is that the Plain-Belly Sneetches and Star-Bellied Sneetches simply get confused as to who is oppressed. As a result, they accept one another. This message of “acceptance” does not acknowledge structural power imbalances. It doesn’t address the idea that historical narratives impact present-day power structures. And instead of encouraging young readers to recognize and take action against injustice, the story promotes a race-neutral approach.
My head hurts now

"Getting along" is IMHO the path America was on a few years ago. We weren't there yet (might never be) but we were getting close. That is not acceptable because it cannot be exploited by race baiters and other various grievance leaders. Racial tolerance and even a little harmony would mean the end of the gravy train.

Hint for prospective authors. Make sure you can somehow be banned on PC grounds.
Like being banned in Boston. Great for sales.
This whole thing is amazingly funny.

They are going after Speedy Gonzales and Pepe Le Pew now too. As a kid, I always thought Pepe Le Pew was there to be a bad example, but apparently the "experts" are saying he promotes rape culture.

They tried to ban both in the 90s for the exact same reasons and did actually succeed to a large extend. This new crop of SJWs is just digging them up again.

They can't ban Speedy Gonzales without also going after Slowpoke Rodriguez! That's racist!
