In the midst of spring cleaning, I found my DVD copy of Braveheart, missing for months; so while SWMBO and the yard apes are at the church revival, I've plugged it in for the 2,732nd time.

For Pete's sake...those pipes at the Sr. Wallace's funeral are coinciding with some piece of something having flown in my eye.
Why does it speak to me so deeply?

It makes me want to go fight the 'anglish', and wear a kilt. Cheesy

One of my favorite movies. I love it when Wallace goes to pick a fight, and his partner says "at least we did't get dressed up for nuthin'.

A wonderful movie, absolutely ruined by the lack of historical accuracy.  I was really upset when I saw it.  It could have been an historical masterpiece, one of the truly great films - but some dumbass researcher and scriptwriter completely destroyed it in the name of commercial appeal.  What a horrible disappointment!

Not knowing much of the history of that era, what am I missing?  How was it inaccurate?

History shmistory.  You can always study the history whenever you want (most of which the victors wrote, anyway), this is just entertainment.  Anything that stirs up the blue-faced ancestor blood can't be all bad, and it has provoked a lot of people to learn more than they ever would had the movie not come along to provoke them.  A Scottish propaganda coup anyway, and more power to them for it.

IIRC, the Wallace/Princess thing never happened, for one.

Stick, at this point I consider the old Clan fights to be family squabbles.
Brothers fight like cats and dogs, but cross one and watch how fast they unite to cut your knees out from under you.

Hey, now...this is a supposed to be family-oriented forum.  We'll have none of that.  Cheesy

Seek out wisdom in books, rare manuscripts, and cryptic poems if you will, but seek it also in simple stones and fragile herbs and in the cries of wild birds. Listen to the song of the wind and the roar of water if you would discover magic, for it is here that the old secrets are still preserved.

The truth about William Wallace (according to the authors) http://www.highlanderweb.co.uk/wallace/  Wink

Good reading though......

Not to mention depicting the battle of Stirling Bridge, without a bridge.

I think the Battle of Stirling Bridge mighta been too violent for the movies. ;-)

My Grandmother's ancestors were from Scotland.  I have a picture of my great great grammaw which was taken in Glasgow according to the photographer's mark on the back of the pic.  I'm a lowlander according to me paw.  Shearer was my grammaw's maiden name.  I don't have any info on the maternal side of her family.  Wish I did.

I loved that movie as well, Fig.

I always wondered why I liked to wear dresses.  heh.

Um, Grampster, I took a guess that your father's name started with an H, is that right?

If so, I can already tell you when and where he was born, how your grandfather died, what year your family immigrated to the US and what your great grandfather did for a living. Also, that it was Anne's family that came from Scotland.

If not? Eh, well..I was guessing based on no information and you always get what you pay for. Smiley

Not bad, eh?

Barbara, You, as usual, rock.  Did you also find how little Dickie welcomed his daddy H back from being a POW in WWII?

I was just telling swmbo about your skills and she reminded me she is descended from the Hale's in Scotland, which, she says, is the family of Mary, Queen of Scots.
