Title: The most beautiful car I've ever seen? Possibly.
Post by: Iain on November 26, 2007, 12:21:15 AM
Seen in the garage under a block of (rather nice) flats where a friend lives:

Now I like vintage cars, or beautiful cars (think Aston Martin or the Alfa Romeo 'supercar' the 8C) as much as anyone else. I'd seen several TV reports on the R8 and noted how impressed the reviewers were with its drive, even referring to it as a 911 beater for similar money. Always been unpersuaded by the looks though. I was wrong, I admit it, in person it is stunning.

Now to find out who in that block paid a ?30 grand premium and try and get a ride in the thing. Then hopefully Audi will produce the rumoured diesel version and I'll get a ride in one of those.

To save this from being a 'old is better than new' retrospective - your vote for the most beautiful current production car.

I saw one last year at the NY auto show.  I'd love to have one but more for the performance than the looks.  My vote for best looking car would either be the Ferrari 599 GTB F1 or maybe the new Aston DBS.

Bah, screw looks. I want raw function and performance in a sports car. I'll take the Ariel Atom. Only two other cars in the world can out accelerate it.

Mercedes 540k and 500k and 300SL Gullwing

1935 Duesenberg SJ Torpedo phaeton

Ferrari 250 GTO

Alfa Romeo Tipo 8C 2900 (1938)

That Alfa...that one especially makes me weak in the knees.

And for Bogie:

I did say current production, so I'll give you the newer Alfa 8C (although they only made 500)

If I get a larger trailer, I may end up looking at a Volvo...

Had a friend in college with a 1930s Rolls... He'd dress up on weekends and limo for weddings... His grandmother had left it to him, or something like that...

I like the new 8C but I don't think any new Alfa is worth $200k+.  I kinda like the new Maserati too.

<snort>

Who needs all those fancy wheels to impress when you can do it for so so much cheaper. Be the talk of the town and the envy of the manly men:

In all seriousness, this may well be my next bike.

Since this turned into a "post a pic of your cars" thread I'll be happy to oblige.

The Mustang engine swapped Merc.

and then the elusive Mitsubishi Starion

Last, but not least, my fun truck

The most beautiful car would be four-wheel drive, high ground clearance, low profile, seat nine people plus cargo space, be able to tow a 20,000 lb trailer, have a long wheelbase and a short turning radius, fit easily into small parking spots, and get 45 miles per gallon.  laugh

I've never seen that car  sad

If someone wanted to give me a Lotus I would love them forever.  I always thought they looked goofy in their pictures, then I saw one in person.  AND I got to drive it!

We need a drooling-all-over-yourself smiley.

I've never seen that car

So... you want a chopped suburban with narrowed Rockwells and a hydraulic rear steer conversion. Easy.

Oh, and it's a series hybrid recharged with... a nuclear reactor. Kinda hard.

BobR, is that a Dnipur or a Ural?  Because I've heard with the Dnipurs you'd better be a mechanic if you buy when; but if you aren't, you will be by the time you dump it on some other unsuspecting soul.  The Urals are apparently much better in quality, and quite a bit more expensive.

That is a Ural Gear Up. It has the on demand drive for the side car.

I may sell my Honda Hurricane and use the money towards this, I don't need to go that fast anymore.
