My favorite was R.L. Burnside's "Going Down South".  He recently passed, I think it was in August '05.

Wes Montgomery, Muddy Waters, Memphis Minnie, John Lee Hooker and Bo Didley, inter alia.

If you like blues harp I would highly recommend Junior Wells and/or Little Walter.

Well's "Hoodoo Man Blues" is a classic album and so is Little Walter's "Best".

If it was me I'd start with the first album and work my way forward. Gregg Piccolo is a local boy and plays a pretty mean saxophone...

The samples of the new album do not represnt the other ways they have sounded over the years. They backed an 80's female singer and actually put one on the charts with her. I cannot remember her name. It's not Joan Jett, Debby Harry, Crissy Hines, but someone along those lines. It may come to me yet. It's like I almost got it but just can't make the connection.

Hound Dog Taylor--I love "Gimme Back My Wig"

Robert Cray--more modern, smooth guitar style, 80's crossover hit with "Strong Persuader"

SRV, of course, for an otherworldly blues interpretation

Freddie King (joining Albert and B.B.)-- gotta love a guy who can reference chitlin pizza

Albert Collins' "Cold Snap" is a phenomenal album, in my opinion, with "Dirty Dishes" as my favorite song.

It's a broad universe. Are you more interested in seminal classics? Piano? Guiter? Delta? Chicago? A little more detail might help us target suggestions.

There's a music store on Beal Street in Memphis that has some of the best and most obscure blues artists I've ever heard. The owner will ask you what blues artists you already like, and then mail you when he gets CD's in from other artists who are in the same genre.

We've bought some incredible music from artists that most people have never even heard of.

"Gimme Back My Wig."  One of my favorites. Nice to see humor in the Blues.

If you're into obscure musicians, check out Milwaukee Slim. Great stuff.

Also, if you get a chance to get to Memphis, check out the Rum Boogie Cafe. They have bands/singers every night that will floor you.

I like kind of a blend of old and new myself, but mostly old. To concur with some others, my favorites are BB King, Albert King and Muddy Waters. For a bit of dark jazz, 'Kind of Blue' from Miles Davis is a good album.
