...by... "Mexican cartel killers."

Sure.  Mexican cartel killers.  Right.

Basically, Andre Howard of Lone Wolf is afeard for his life from retaliation from "someone."

Mexican cartels have mild incentive since he played ball with feds during gun purchase stings... but really, they have incentive against any FFL and therefore dealing with straw buyers and FFL's is just a risk of business in that particular criminal industry.  I don't think the cartels care about him at all.

But, his testimony in front of Congress could end quite a few ATF careers.

Frankly, the best thing the "Mexican cartels" could get out of Mr. Howard would be his testimony in front of Congress and a massive cut in ATF authority and scope of operation.  It would make straw purchases a skosh bit easier (just a little bit).  Killing him would protect the ATF executive force monopoly on gun trafficking interdiction.

Who do you suppose has the means to REALLY kill Mr. Howard?

Who has an authoritative list of all these "straw purchased guns" and how many have been recovered versus actually out in the wild?

This is smelling more and more like Matthew Bracken's books or John Ross' Unintended Consequences.  Bureaucracies with plantable/untraceable guns, political homicides to affect policy changes, secret ATF operations, hit teams...
"But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain - that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case, it is unfit to exist."
