What are you living for?
« on: March 01, 2007, 01:29:27 PM »
It's struck me lately that my life has become a routine. I'm on the phone or on the computer all day, then log on to the forums (APS, THR, TFL, etc) for a while at the end of the day.

At about 6 pm, I head downstairs to read the mail and the newspaper. After that I'll either do some paperwork for my business or for our concealed carry group. Or I might call someone.

About 8 pm, I eat. And then I come back upstairs to go online again. Depending upon whether there's something interesting online, or whether I have something to say, I may either go to bed early, or stay up too late.

Next day it's lather, rinse and repeat.

The stuff I do during the day is required to pay the bills, and maybe get ahead some.

But right now I can't identify a goal, or a reason for doing what I do. I just do it.

When it looked like we had a chance to get CCW here in WI, that was major motivation for me. To be able to help make a difference in peoples' lives is something not many get to do. So, while I complained about it, I enjoyed the fight. Now the fight is on hold for a few years.

What about you? Are there goals that you're pursuing, things that you want to accomplish, things that you're working toward now? Or are you just running the treadmill, too?

Yeah, I'm in a holding pattern, too.

I'm unemployed (I have a job that starts in May. Pffththb.) and I'm not attending classes. I get up whenever, eat some breakfast, do whatever chores my mom tells me to do, maybe exercise a little, and then putz around until I go to bed. I got no friends in this suck town, and there's nothing worth doing or going to around here. no goals or dreams or any of that mess at the moment, either.

Very funny, Rabbi.  Your store is now there, so pick a new goal. Wink

I'm mostly running the treadmill.  I'm an average guy with an average job, a family, and some pets.  I have a stable routine and I'm happy with it.

Of course, I live to be happy, to make my family happy and to raise our children to be upstanding adults.

Beyond the obvious, I live to spread the ideals of Liberty, and I do so at every possible opportunity.

I'm waiting for spring so I can go golfing.

Other than that, I'm working on a few scholarship applications for college, but am pretty much just running on the treadmill right now. Not that I mind. I'm pretty satisfied with my life.

I do have big plans though. Problem is, they all require money, so I'm just working along, dropping my spare greenbacks into coffee cans, waiting for the time when I've saved enough to start accomplishing some of those goals.

My semi-retired life is pretty routine.

Aged/ailing local family members provide some challenges, but nothing major.

My present goal is to earn "A" status as an IPSC shooter.  I'm currently a "C" shooter.

I did recieve an invitation to the USPSA National Match in Tulsa this September based upon my performance at an area match last June.  That's a hoot!  I'm definitely going.  I'm looking for this to help provide the initiative I need to lose 20 lbs and get back into better shape.  I've kinda let myself go a little since I retired from the service.

What about you? Are there goals that you're pursuing, things that you want to accomplish, things that you're working toward now? Or are you just running the treadmill, too?

I accomplished the checklist of stuff I really wanted to do in this life.  The minor things, climb a mountain, fly in a helo, etc etc.   The goal, only one left really, is to buy a nice stretch of property.  I always wanted a home.

What gives me purpose?  Passing on knowledge, actually.  Guess you could call it teaching, not in any real formal setting.  I had good instructors and mentors when I was younger.  I'm still young (25) and learning, but I do like passing on what I've learned.  For a while, I was instructing nuggets going to Iraq.  Some straight out of AIT.  Try as hard as you can, some folks just don't learn fast enough.  I like to think maybe something I passed on kept a couple alive.  I liked doing it back when I was still in.

I see myself, not that long ago, in the folks I teach.  If it hadn't been for folks who kept an eye on me and taught me well, I doubt I'd be here today.  Best way to repay those that I'll never be able to repay is to do the same for others.

Couple other things, but it's sorta private.

That and I like "enjoying the moment."  The things that life worth all the bad stuff are the simple pleasures.  A good book, an excellent cigar, a fine wine/sake/beer.  If folks find happiness in elaborate activities, good for them.  Perfect moments, here and there, make everything seem worth the effort.  Too rare, but perhaps that's for the best.
"Rev, your picture is in my King James Bible, where Paul talks about "inventors of evil."  Yes, I know you'll take that as a compliment."  - Fistful, possibly highest compliment I've ever received.

Much of my effort is expended in ducking the wrath of SWMBO, who has become caustic and incendiary in recent months.

Not sure if it's a chemical imbalance, attitudinal or behavioral anomaly, or just visceral hatred.  The woman just ain't right, she's pretty p!ssed off at what she's experiencing in the wider world, and it's USUALLY directly or indirectly MY fault.

You know, Global Warming, unseasonally wet weather, high gas prices, no strong leader emerging as president to lead us to safe haven financially and with regard to terrorism...

Yep, I did all that.  rolleyes

And me not working since she INSISTED that I get the bad hip replaced RIGHT NOW, not later...leaving her unable to take a "girls' vacation" cruise with her buddies...

Uh huh.  My bad.  angry undecided

Maybe someday I'll fix all these problems I have created.
Heaven help me. rolleyes

I live to make my own decisions in following my life. In doing so I seem to drive the leftists completely crazy, without ever knowing who they are, until they blow up at me like some crazy person in a stalker movie.

world domination,  firebombing of berkely, socialist liberals cowering at the sound of my name,  basicly what every evil conservative wants!

Actually,  just trying to decide on a course of action with life.  trying to balance family buisness and farm with military stuff.  realy pain in the arse.

Because I believe everyone, including myself, if they work hard enough at it, can make the world a slightly better place then they found it.

Sounds kind of hippy, but I mean WORK. Like, hardcore, introspective, confronting character defects and apologizing... and also backbreaking manual labor that's required in feeding/housing/employing etcetera people.

It's a sort of communism of the heart, if I may.

Also; photography, attractive strangers smiling at me, high fives, embarassing my girlfriend in public, my boss thanking me for the allowing him to give me a raise instead of just LEAVING, longboarding, ideas, books, films, etcetera.

Also, jeans that just fit right. Seriously. I LOVE that feeling. yummmm

Also: talking to others about what get's em going in the morning.

The one hundred percent goal in my life is to be here and mentally present for every moment, to not become automatic, to enjoy whatever I do/do whatever I enjoy, love and be loved, try to help, and just basically emulate Saint Francis of Assisi. (I'm jewish, but that doesn't mean he wasn't a super cool guy)
