Now my local utility is selling carbon credits (aka, indulgences).
« on: September 13, 2009, 10:37:02 PM »
I got a flyer in Saturday's mail, urging me as a consumer to purchase "blocks of renewable energy" in $3.00 increments, applicable to my monthly electric bill.  Yeah, sure, I'm all over that like white on rice....

More here:

http://www.spwl.net/environment/renewableorder.asp?CategoryNumber=1

And their FAQ is particularly hilarious:

http://www.spwl.net/environment/default.asp?CategoryNumber=1&SubcategoryNumber=1

I'm seriously considering attending the next city council meeting and asking "WTF, over?"

Then I'm going to introduce an incentive at $3.00 per household to Save the Puppies from fur farmers/Korean restaurants/etc. May as well...

At $3, no. At $50, you could probably sell them to suckers. It's all a question of perceived value.

I need to get into the carbon offset business.  I have an idea it's an easy way to make a buck without doing much.

Im almost dishonest enough to try.

Give them time.

I just finished writing a nastygram to SPW&L.  It appears that the liberal cloud enveloping Madison has sent a plume our direction.   =(

I've explored it and it takes a lot of trees/grass to be able to sell carbon credits. In other words you can't pay the note of the land if you go into the carbon credit business.

Doesn't algae do the job better than trees? Then you can have yourself a combination wetland/carbon credit plantation. And a fishing hole.

My local electric company has a green meter on their site.  My wife did the test, we are so green, without even trying, that I could sell them to algore.  If they want to pay me to not buy a SUV, they can do so.  It's kind of like paying farmers not to plant various crops.

I did not plant 25 acres of wheat=  $$
I did not buy a gas guzzling Chevy Suburban=  $$$

What's next, credit for recycling your own methane?

NOTICE TO WHITE PEOPLE:

Please be aware that you can offset your White Guilt (over your prosperity) by sending me ammunition.

For every mile you drive you can send me one 50 round box of .45acp.

I do not smoke pot, wear Wookie suits, live in my mom's basement, collect unemployment checks or eat Cheetoes, therefore I am not a Ron Paul voter.

Any wagers as to how long before these voluntary contributions become less-than-voluntary?
He never brought you an unbalanced budget, which is a perennial joke. He never voted himself a wage increase and, to this day, gives back part of his salary every year. He has always voted to preserve the Constitution, cut government spending, lower healthcare costs, end the war on drugs, secure our borders with immigration reform and protect our civil liberties.

As soon as enough politicians arrange to line their own pockets through the mandatory purchase of these imaginary products.
Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.
