Take the right course of action and time to let it heal properly.

My new hobby is climbing, I've been climbing indoors since last Nov.

Early on I hurt my ring finger on the right hand but kept on climbing 1 or 2 times a week. Three weeks ago I discovered the name of the injury and what the consequences were if I kept climbing and didn't let it heal. It is called a pulley injury, it is microtear(s) of the connective tissue in the finger. It causes enough weakness where I am more susceptible to a full blown tendon rupture if I don't let it heal up.

I'm taking time off from climbing and working out at home to maintain my fitness level.
For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

Ron - I couldn't agree more.  Now that I realize the nature of what happened, I've decided it's best to take a hiatus from Krav Maga for a while.  The owner has suspended my membership, which I thought was a decent.

I've got a better picture of the break:

As you can see, I've seriously damaged the bones that make up the joint.

Funny - it hurt a lot when it happened, but I kept on fighting.

Surgery is tomorrow.

Makes me nervous, even though I know it's for the best.  =|

Just a quick follow up, surgery is over, everything went really well.

Got a script for vicodin, so I should be alright from a pain standpoint.

I'll say the obvious.  Do NOT use your metal cutting gear while high on pain killers.   :P

Good to hear everything went well Nick.  Don't be pickin' yer nose with that finger for awhile.  Wait for it to heal, first.  =D

So, I have an appointment on April 29th to "get the pin out."

I was unsure what this meant until recently.  I've recently noticed that I can see the end of a pin just under the skin at the tip of my finger.  This is odd, because it appears to be inserted lengthwise, parallel to the bone.

Then I found this video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Znd_HUXM-0g (WARNING: Graphic!)

Yea, one of my brothers trashed his hand on a guardrail in a motorcylce accident. he had little pins sticking out every which way. Good to hear you're on the mend.

I am now without a 2 inch long, 1/16ish diameter stainless pin!   =)

If you all want gory details, including the part where I had to lay on the ground because I was going to pass out - just ask.  :O

Cool.

A girl I used to play coed softball with essentially jammed her ring finger inside the glove.  It caused a break at the joint.  She was playing first and the ball just hit her glove wrong.  This was years ago and she still has little use of the finger.  It can be pretty bad.

Had a friend who was running a large paper cutter - multiple reams in one cut.  The blade actuator was a pair of buttons arms' length apart.  The actuator for the several-ton press to hold the paper in place, OTOH, was a too conveniently placed foot pedal.  Fortunately he got off the pedal before the damage would have been irreparable.

yea  a 22ton wood splitter will leave a mark if your hand gets pinches by a piece of wood shifting.  as he changes the bandage
It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

The steam presses I used to service had two green buttons so you had to use both hands to close it and couldn't catch a hand. Unless you're about 6' tall and can reach one of the buttons with a knee, use one hand to adjust the clothes and one hand to close the press on the hand you are using to arrange the clothes. Not me thankfully, sometimes it's good to be short. The kid said the back of his hand stuck to the hot steel, he ripped off all the skin.  :O

Did a lot of damage, scarring etc.  =|
