Great idea.  Enough war protesting ended Vietnam, and will end the Iraq occupation also.

Isn't Boston that place where the cops went all ape over the LED blinkie-thingies?  And where that MIT genius wore the printed circuit sweater into the airport?

So the idea with this gizmo is you walk around Boston and eventually your GPS triggers it to create a big poof of air and confetti that looks like smoke and shrapnel.  Do the cops then scurry to collect the flying pieces of paper to mourn the Bhagdadi dead, or do they open fire on the suicide bomber wannabe standing in front of them?

Sounds like another really good way to get the airheads out of the gene pool.

Yep!  This will end the war, all right.

stay safe.

I love America and I want to take it back from the bunch of lying, self serving criminals who hijacked it for the purpose of lining their own pockets.  Pity you can't see that.

I rarely agree with Riley, but he is right. If the cops DID gun down an anti-America (they call themselves Peace) activist, that is exactly how the media would portray it. I do not doubt for a second they would sacrifice one of their own for that kind of publicity.

It would be a tough battle of the PR teams.

Peaceniks vs. Protectors.

Peaceniks: "She was just trying to end war and spread love.  She wouldn't hurt a fly."

Protectors: "We were just responding to a suspicious person report.  She wouldn't comply with the officer's instructions."

Nothing says "Protest" quite as well as self-immolation.

Just do it somewhere where the ashes can be scooped up and dumped with a minimum of hassle.  Wink

I'm in agreeance there...but....
would she have done the same for each person that was executed under Sadam Hussein?

Just make sure you purchase a couple of bucks worth of carbon credits, as you'll be contributing to global warming...... or on second thought you should be given carbon credits since you'll removing yourself as a carbon consumer and returning your carbon (in the form of ashes) back to mother earth.

I'm confuddled, can we get a ruling from Al Gore on this ??

Either way it's a win-win.  grin rolleyes angel

And wasn't Cherry Blossom the name of a WWII Japanese Suicide plane/rocket ??

I remember Bush being elected 7 year ago. So no, we didn't take it back. Instead we got the PATRIOT act, Military Commissions act, and various other liberty squashing legislation. All that in addition to an unnecessary economy killing war and freedom fries.

Given the absence of explosives, I seriously doubt she has intentions of blowing herself up anytime soon. But hey, that never stopped the police before. They don't need a reason. Gone are the days of probable cause and justifiable actions.

Too bad it didn't "detonate" in an enclosed space, such as a port-a-potty.

Seriously, if the deployment of one of these units cause panic that results in injury or death (a stampede, heart attack, et al), the bastard wearing it should be hit with a multitude of serious criminal and civil charges.  Hell, just wearing a device essentially designed to simulate the panic and terror associated with a terrorist bombing among an unsuspecting public should itself be considered a crime.

Though in poor taste, I wouldn't take nearly as much offense if war-protesters were to  mark a spot in their city where these terrorist bombs would have been if Boston were Baghdad by dumping a backpack full of rose petals at the location.  Instead, they want to simulate a bombing... in public... by use of panic and terror.
If the intent is to cause "terror", even if the intended/desired result is to harmlessly force the population to realized the suffering of others... shouldn't anyone wearing such a device be considered a "terrorist"?

I certainly hope no one else picks up on such a stupid idea, deciding to don a "Cherry Blossom" backpack.

Whoa!  That's quite a bit different than all the whining coming from the Bush adminstration and its sycophant pro war crowd who constantly bemoan the 'undermining of the war effort and the war against terra'.

You can't have it both ways.  Which is it?

"It's lame because I disagree with it!"

What's pretentious about this? What's a less 'pretentious' way to recontextualize the violence in Iraq, giving it an American face?

How do you know she's a trustafarian? The two MIT grads that I know personally came from middle-class families.
