What the...

http://www.videosift.com/video/Mystery-Life-Form-in-NC-Sewer

It's probably just a slime-mold/fungus. There are ones that can crawl around in jungles, then they revert back to a "dry" mode where they look much more like regular mushrooms/fungus. They're just a colony of independant fungus cells, but they're capable of very organized movment like they're a singular animal. Most can only be captured moving under time-lapse photography.

And living in a sewer, I'm guessing it just does not like the lights on the rover very much.

But stil, sheesh.  =(

Someone also suggested it may be a viral marketing campaign for some upcoming game or movie. I don't know, it looks a bit too "real" and organic for that.

Or I guess if you're big on H.P. Lovecraft, it's a Shoggoth.  =D

Just take off and nuke the site from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.
A plan is just a list of things that doesn't happen.
Is defenestration possible through the overton window?

Sorry, forgot the link. It's fixed up above.

There's also a news story on it as well.

http://www.kdvr.com/kdvr-prehistoricsewermonstercaug-5439314,0,673974.story

They're saying it's a Bryozoan, which are kind of similar to corals. There are all sorts of them, salt water, fresh water, deep/dark, and shallow/sunlight varieties. It's like a bunch of individual tiny anemonies or coral polyops that like to live together in a big lump.
I promise not to duck.

Now that it makes a little more sense, my previous advice stands.

I half-expect a little alien facehugger to come skittering out of it.

Never heard of a shoggoth before; wiki was enlightening and I must have just grazed over it in Shroedinger's Cat and Illuminatus Trilogy.

I giggled at the Shoggoth idea.

Now the second-grader scientist in me is wondering... what happens if you poke it with a stick probe it?

Is it just me...  or does it look like a heart?

I don't know what it is, but killing it sounds like an excellent idea.

Yea...  that's creepy.  Totally kill it... for... umm... research.

I'm not the least bit squeamish, but <shudder>.

I have to second PTK and say:

I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

I was in the middle of eating my pizza... I think I'm going to be sick now.

I second the fire killing.

Reminds me of a Cowboy Bebop episode where there is a fungus creature loose on the ship that had evolved in this fridge in the storage. XD
