I cannot remember the last time I saw a full-service gas station up here with an operational service bay.

There are a lot of gas stations around Northern Virginia that do repairs, ranging from fairly simple stuff to full-blown hard core work, but not a single one of them is full service at the pump.

I used to have a problem with that wih the side-saddle tanks on my camper.  A fill cap on both sides.  I'd have to warn the attendant in the booth that I'd have to pull out and turn around so hesheit wouldn't think I was cutting out on paying.  I think it was 40-45 gallons for a total fill.   (And don't forget to switch the valve back to the main tank.)  Those side saddle tanks were like the Pinto gas tank, vulnerable to collisions but on the sides instead.

Long fuel hoses are common in rural areas and places with a lot of boating opportunities.

I see long hoses on diesel pumps for heavy trucks.

I would imagine shops like that are better off re-purposing that space to sell junk food and coffee. And don't forget the beer cave.

It seems to me these days there mostly small cheap oil change places that do the easy stuff with less skilled labor and larger more expensive shops that do the more complicated work.  Is that because of the cost of skilled labor or the cost of electronic tools?
