Assessing the Need for Reform in the Federal Regulatory Process
« on: September 08, 2010, 02:36:00 PM »
http://judiciary.senate.gov/hearings/hearing.cfm?id=4771

This is the full title of the hearing that's been scheduled:  “Firearms in Commerce: Assessing the Need for Reform in the Federal Regulatory Process”

Not a whole lot of info at the link, just a notice that it's the full senate judiciary committee that will be meeting to discuss this sept. 14th.

With the current bunch in senate, and a bunch of them probably fearing that they won't be coming back after November, this scares the bejeebers outta me.

Because I can just about guarantee they're not talking about easing the "Federal Regulatory Process".

Possibly it is about the BATFE reform bill the NRA has been promoting for a long time.  I think it passed the house at some point, but hasn't been brought up in the senate.

So, this might even be a good thing.

Have you looked at who the members of this committee are?  Some of the biggest gun grabbers in the Senate are on it!

It's about reforming (as in physically re-organizing) BAFTEIEIO.  However, with some digging and confirmation from the NRA, it is about reforming the BATFE and is pro-gun:

Look here & there:

Looks to be an attempt to change BATFE's ways; bipartisan and all that

The Hotair comments are fairly amusing, they are taking a bill that has to do with cleaning up the laws for FFL's (a good thing probably) and freaking out thinking it has to do with CCW and/or firearms licensing.

I like this part:

"Directs the Attorney General to authorize the importation of all frames or receivers of rifles, or barrels for firearms other than handguns, if the importation is for repair or replacement purposes."

That is my opinion.  I never underestimate the ability of Congress to screw up a good bill.

What are the chances Obama will sign it ?

Agreed, there is nothing freak out worthy here yet.  All the proposed changes are positive, not earth shattering like opening of the NFA MG registry to new registrations or something, but good incremental steps.  If what comes out of committee is bad then we can freak out.

Such as slipping the Hughes Amendment into the FOPA?
