I'd just keep it if I had one.

I don't plan on fighting in the Arctic or Sahara...

And if I need to shoot past 100 yards, I'd be using some other magnified optic anyway.  Elcan has a holosight coming out, it was debuted at SHOT this January, but knowing ELCAN, it'll cost 2-3X as much.
I promise not to duck.

I didn't send mine in last year because I figured I'd never be shooting in those extremes.

However, I did not remember that part of the battery compartment is cosmetically damaged because of a leaking battery. I should have taken advantage.

My only EOTech was a gift and a factory second bought for me by an EOTech employee.  I figured it wouldn't be covered by the return/repair process anyhow.

Oh yeah, if it's "free money" then I guess I would do it.

I have been using an older 511 for close to 10 years.  Zero problems.  Most of the use is for night hog hunting.  Cold weather or hot, never an issue.  I use a 512 on my HD AR carbine.  No issues with that one either.

Returned mine because I had more red dots than guns to put them on, and money is nice. Besides, the EOTech is a heavy beast.

That problem, known as thermal drift because it is weather-related, can cause the holographic weapon sight, or HWS, to be off target by six to 12 inches when a shooter is 300 feet away from a target ...

So, within acceptable accuracy for a Mini-14, then.

I have a pretty old one.  The only time I was close to what they are talking about is when I tried to put it on a scout mount that bolted to an M1 Garand barrel.  Once I realized the optic was heating up along with the barrel, I took it off.  I don't know if it was inaccurate, I just wasn't comfortable with it heating up.

That's been my logic. I have one I bought used several years ago. It lives on the AR and seems to work fine for the amount of use I put it to. I check that it still lights up about once a week and pop targets at the range with it, so I'm not really in the demographic that needs to worry about this defect.
