Apparently the latest trend in Chicago, because of the cold weather, is robbing people at gunpoint for Canada Goose coats:
https://www.foxnews.com/us/thieves-in-chicago-are-targeting-canada-goose-coats-as-temperatures-plunge-in-city-police-say
I'm going to be an APS pseudo-pedant and gripe about the article using the term "thieves". Sticking a gun in people's faces makes these lowlifes robbers committing a robbery, not thieves committing theft. Both types are lowlifes, but the former is the more dangerous kind.

8 people in a week in a metropolitan of several million, hardly anything to get excited about.
In the summer time there will be 8 people in a week being robbed for their sneakers.

Wouldn't it be grand if a secure smartphone app could arm a gizmo in the coat to spray poison ivy extract all over the next person who wore it? >:D

Or a GPS tracker in the coat.

So it's a $900-1200 cold weather fashion coat, has a big label on the sleeve, or course this says steal me.

Simple solution. Outlaw possession of expensive designer coats.

Personally I think even one robbery is a big deal, regardless of population percentages or the expense of the item. Unless like women in short skirts, they had it coming.

Howard O’Toole, who owns the coat, said he removed the patch off his coat because he didn’t want to give the company free advertising but said it may have paid off. He said others should consider ditching the patch as well.
Or just cover it with an NRA patch.

But then the Chicago cops will shoot you...

Just for the record, Canada Goose stuff isn't actually overpriced (much):
A Canada Goose Expedition Parka is right at $1000 including ruff. That coat is good for -30F- to -50F. That's actually a pretty good price. A Northern Outfitters Arctic Parka is going to run you $1200 or so. My parka from my dog mushing days was ~$1200 (in 1996) plus another $400 for the beaver and wolf ruff. Several of the Iditarod Mushers I know rock Canada Goose parkas. Screwing around outside in those temps requires pretty good gear, of which there aren't a whole ton of manufacturers and they cost good money.
Now do you need that gear to walk to your car in Chicago? No. But they probably didn't need the Range Rover they were walking to either. Chicago's roads are plowed.
I suspect that there are some jackets they sell with a higher temp rating that nudge more towards "overpriced", but for the most part they sell good, serious gear that is made in North America. That *expletive deleted*it ain't cheap.

But then the Chicago cops will shoot you...
Maybe . . . but having seen how Chicago cops shoot, the expected fusillade will probably perforate assorted parked cars, mailboxes, and bystanders before they actually hit you.

See.
If the thugs had a Range Rover and Canada Goose coat they could have stayed on schedule.

Yup. Gotta spend money to make money, people.
