Tears of joy...
« on: July 06, 2013, 06:01:16 PM »
Oh, happy day!

For the first time since the Recent Madness, I have encountered .22 LR, with solid bullets, on the store shelf.

I leapt.

I wept.

I danced for joy.

I bought as much as they would allow. (100 rds, for $6.54)

There was even a plentiful supply of .45 Auto FMJ!

What more will this day of wonders bring?!

<shrug>  I still have 8000 rounds from the last 0bama Ammo Famine, when that was all you could get.

Oh, believe me, I recorded this momentous event for posterity.

There was some subsonic .22, but no one seemed in a great hurry to buy it. Cost twice as much.

I thought the moral of the story was going to be that when you finally came out of your Whirling Dervish reverie you found someone had snuck in and grabbed all the ammo.

Jeez, where have you been?

Dad's been coming home with boxes of .22 lr for like two months now. :P

I want to punch you.

We don't even need it, either. There's only one .22 and niether dad or I ever shoot it. We still have almost a thousand rounds from back in ... Whatever year it was I turned 18.

He just bought it 'cause he could.

I can probably scrape up 3,000 rounds if I look in all my junk. This little shortfall will never ever happen again as soon as ammo is back in quantity. We'll be colonizing other solar systems and people will still be shooting my stockpile.

My local Cabelas had none an hour later, when I went back for more.

My local academy gets ammo 3 days a week.  I've been adding to my.22 stock slowly, since they only seem to be getting boxes of fifty.
they actually had 7.62x39 on the shelf for the days after they received shipment on Wed, and some.223 made it into the next day.  Probably gonna go blow a few hundred rounds this week.

I am where I've always been, and there is no .22LR ammo to be found ... anywhere.

Not to hijack, but Lizzy:
How does that metal filing cabinet work for ammo?  Hold up pretty well?  I need to reconfigure my storage.

Great. The orginal is an ancient one that Dad's had as long as he's been here. It's old and crotchty, but built like a tank. The drawers handle the weight, which is the one thing that concerned me when I figured to experiment with it. I try not to let them get stacked too much above the sides of the drawers (which is about half way up the front/back of the drawers) and that fits 2, 592 rounds of .223.

The newer one (it was purchased at the local dump in pretty damn good condition) seems to be built just as strong and is actually in a little better shape. The drawers slide smoother, but still handle the weight fine.
