Technology says I must have voicemail.  OK, technology, lI'll have voicemail.  But I'll have it my way.

You have a new Voicemail message from: (800) 2-9802.

"'[skid] you're answering machine is in Spanish I don't know if you're aware of that when someone calls and it goes to Spanish mode. Anyway I'm Susan rner I am trying to give you a call in regards to the  service that you had requested information about two weeks ago. If you can assist with or help just give us a call there. If we can help you at this time let us know if not we'll take you from the computer system but we do need to know if we can help you or what the status is. My number is 1404662 1404662. Thank you sir."

If I wanted you to call me, Susan, I would have given you te number that I actually answer - most of the time.

For a couple years, folks complained that my voicemail was always full. I told them that was funny, because I checked it once a couple years ago and it was fine.

So, after three to five years of this, I fixed the problem. By deleting my voicemail functionality. Now, no one complains about my voicemail being full.
"Rev, your picture is in my King James Bible, where Paul talks about "inventors of evil."  Yes, I know you'll take that as a compliment."  - Fistful, possibly highest compliment I've ever received.

you're answering machine is in Spanish

Our family line answering machine loses the custom message everytime the power blinks, so it just defaults back to "Please leave your message at the tone."

Otherwise, I would record a greeting in Gaelic  =D

Oh my! If I set up my voice mail could I get you to record a greeting in gaelic? I wonder if gaelic triggers one of the surveillance programs?

I could write something out, but the phonetics are difficult.  And I would have to make it up myself so it might not be in the idiom that would actually be used for an answering machine by a native speaker.

Scottish Gaelic, so they would probably ban kilts and bagpipes all over again

that might be a problem. my family were republicans. as was my recently deceased friend.  he got talkative near the end i could probably clear up some 30 year old crimes in belfast and dublin and a couple in galway

Beat me to it.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.
