But, I have to admit that I'm prejudiced. I always hated that damn song.

Aaahhhhh,sacrilege!!  angel

On another note,Don McLean is still alive I think.
Why doesn't someone just ask him what the song means?

Ok, here's the deal. You go talk to him, get it in writing what the song means. And then I whack him out nice and easy. (I'm kidding, I'm kidding!!! Wink ).

Monkeyleg?

Is that you?

All this time I thought you were this intelligent, well poised, collected individual.

And with one sentence, you crushed it.

Disliking that song?  Tsk, tsk, tsk.

Im shocked.

I have always liked that song.  And why after reading what Riley posted I could see a lot of what the song could have meant.

The one thing that most people do agree on is that the day the music died was the day we lost Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and The Big Bopper.

We came close to also losing Waylon Jennings on that flight also.  But he gave his seat up for a sick band member so they didn't have to ride the bus.
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Bacon is the candy bar of meats!

Only the dead have seen the end of war!

All I know is that I've always loved that song.

The lyrics are very evocative, but what they alluded to I never really understood.  They just hooked my attention and directed it somewhere I felt I should look but somehow never did.  It raises emotions and thought fragments -- but exactly what about eludes me. That happens every time I hear the song.

This analysis is excellent and it brought back events I hadn't thought about in years.

Thanks, RileyMc.
