So what's going on with the DNS?

Not quite.

I could neither edit nor delete my HOSTS file because the system said it was in use. I imagine that was becaus my PC is hooked up to cable thru a router.

I had to boot into safe mode, goto cmd and then edit the hosts file from their.

Man was I surprised. When I typed edit hosts the old DOS quickeditor came up. Brought back old times.

What a pain.

When are they going to get the DNS problem fixed.

That's odd. The hosts file isn't supposed to be "in use". It's referenced as needed to perform name lookups, but only when necessary. I've never run into a situation when that file was in use.

I used mtnbkr's tip, as well. It got me here from my desktop and my laptop. At least I can get my fix. grin

We'll all have to undo things when DNS issue is resolved.

I can't say this is what was going on with Werewolf, but I have seen some programs that are supposed to increase speed that will edit hosts file. I don't know if something like could hold it open.

I use ZoneAlarm as a software backup to my hardware firewarll. I think that may be what is using the hosts file or at least locking it. Or maybe Spybot or AVG is locking it. There was a time when less than savory types on the internet would hijack HOSTS files and cause all kinds of mischief, redirects etc.

I'm using ZoneAlarm myself, and I had no trouble editing hosts. YMMV

Yup. It's working properly here. I removed the hosts file entry.

HOSTS? DNS? Am I missing something? I click on the blue "e", then click on "Favorites", scroll down to "Armed Polite Society", and click on that.
