First Impressions...
« on: August 14, 2007, 03:09:54 PM »
You walk into a nice restarant for lunch. At the table next to you is a well dressed man in his late 50's or early 60's with an attractive young woman in her mid 20's casually dressed.

When you see this what is the first thing that pops into your mind?

The first thing that pops into my mind is "maybe I still have a chance find an attractive young woman in her mid 20's."  grin

I guess it makes some people feel special to answer that they don't speculate.  But the poll is about first impressions - what pops into your head.  And most people have some theory right off the bat.  So, no, don't get all judgmental until the facts are in, but don't deny you have some reaction to it.

I answered number three, but it's not like I don't keep an open mind.  It's just what comes to mind.  Maybe because it's the more interesting explanation.

Actually it doesn't make me feel special or anything to answer "nada", it's just that I wouldn't even notice the age disparity unless it were pointed out first. I might notice her, but doubt I'd pay much attention to him, and more likely to ignore both totally since neither are whom I'm there for.

Once pointed out, I suppose I'd go for the coworker thing first. At least until the comments at the table I'm with took it into the gutter (not long).

The thing is, I don't just see the two people--I'm immediately getting a sense of their relationship from their posture, their facial expressions, etc.

Unless she's showing a lot of cleavage, in which case I might as well have mush between my ears. grin

I answered nada because I'd have other things on my mind, like food.

Gotta ask...

Wht's the point of this exercise?

First impression, given just what is in the OP, is Father/Daughter lunch.

I voted "Nada", because unless people are out-of-the-ordinary in some way, I tend not to spend a whole lot of time worrying about things that aren't my business.

If they stand out for some reason, then I'll evaluate closer.

Oh, and I notice that you conspicuously left "Agents of the Secret Pan-Global Hegemony, who suspiciously appear in every dang restaurant I go into, they must be on to me" off the list.

If you're going to post a poll, at least make it a fair one and include all reasonable viewpoints as options...

Perhaps the old guy is an author/expert on something and the young lady is a reporter type doing an interview.

Or maybe they're married.  laugh

Who cares... when you see two guys at a table, do ya think they're gay???

Actually happened. I went to lunch with two female co-workers (mid 50's like me) and after we set down one of them asked "What's up with that?", referring to the elder gentleman and the younger lady. The ladies both decided it was a gold diggin' bimbo put the moves on a well to do geezer. My first impression was split between Father/Daughter and Geezer putting the moves on the gal. I went with Geezer puttin' the moves on the gal and the ladies I was with just didn't buy it.

I think they went that way because of their age. I'm guessing that if they'd been in their 20's they might have leaned more towards the Father/Daughter scenario.

Probably a purchasing agent being bored to death by a guy selling plastic parts.

Or that's how it works in my world, anyway.
