MSRP $699

Meaning street price would be around $600.  Looks like it would be competing mostly with the Springfield GI and Milspec type 1911.

Hmmm.  One of the two handguns I'm still interested in acquiring is a plain and practical .45 1911.

Wonder who makes that tool.

Don't know, but that tool is available at Midway, Brownell's, and others.

That is pretty and a nice basic 1911 is on my future gun list, but not this year.

Cuz GI sights suck.

It's cut for Novaks.  Put in whatever sights you want.

I prefer GI sights.

They don't catch on stuff.

And I've got a Series 70 that has "nice" sights. They do. So if I have a serious social occasion that might happen, I carry the... Norinco.

If it's far enough away that I have to consciously aim, I can probably run from it...

Neat.  A little while back Remington emailed me a lever action rifle survey.  I basically told them to copy the original 94 or else it'd be dumb.
I guess they figure sine Winchester stopped making them they can move back in the market this time without fuss.

There are plenty of no-snag sights designed to work in Novak cuts.  Find a style you like and swap them out.  I prefer XS sights, very fast sights, but they aren't for everyone.  I'm sure if you dug around you could find a tiny, barely-usable GI style sight, though I'm not sure why you'd want to.   :P

The cool thing about using a standard Novak sight cut is that the gun can be made to accommodate everyone's preferences easily.

I really could use a full-sized 1911 in .45ACP to play with as my .45Super gun.

And those sights are just right, better than Novaks, 'cause one can rack the slide on one's gun belt if one hand is disabled.  I can do it the other way, but it is easier if the rear sight has a shelf.

+1. It doesn't make any sense to use anything other than Novak cuts. Taurus does it deliberately, and other makers are just obstinate...

I'm not excited about the pistol, but it is fun watching Remington gear themselves to be a one-stop-shop for LE and Military gear like S&W recently did.

Can't wait to see them churning out original design pistols.  That HAS to be in the works.

Remington is owned by Cerberus who also owns Marlin.  They're merging a bunch of gun companies together under the banner "Freedom Group."

You have to wonder what's going on financially behind the scenes with their issuance of PIK-toggles.

The 1911 R-1 is a Series 80 gun.
Quote
The series 80 firearms feature an additional firing pin block within the slide which requires the trigger to be fully depressed in order for the hammer to transfer its energy to the firing pin in order to make the gun fire.  This serves as a safeguard to prevent accidental or negligent discharges.

Generally thought of as bad. It's supporters generally just say "It's not really bad" instead of "It's actually a good thing" based on my reading of the boards. Hardly a subject matter expert here tho, so...

I just wonder if this is based on exuberance from the '08-'09 Obama election panic, or real fundamentals?

Because except for ammo prices (which are leveling off too) that's just about over. And if the recession keeps up, it'll impact discretionary spending items like firearms heavily. Everybody who's been in panic mode to 'stock up' is pretty much done now.

And Remington and Marlin's lineup to date hasn't been what the panic was after either.
I promise not to duck.

Bad. Unnecessary safety, which requires unnecessary parts, which require additional maching, all of which lead to increased difficulty in cleaning/disassembly. All for a very slight improvement in safety when the pistol is dropped from a great height onto a hard surface, muzzle down.

Another full-sized 1911 in .45ACP...... *yawn*  ;/

If Remington (or Ruger or any other company coming into the 1911-clone business) wanted to make a big splash, they'd bring out a Lightweight Commander or Officer's Model in 9mm for $600 or less.....THAT would be a big splash....
