Yes, I'm criticizing the habit of cutting off words and sticking a y sound on the end of them. "Shotgun" and "address" are not that hard to say or type. Why abbreviate them in this annoying, childish way? Why? Why? It doesn't sound cool. It doesn't make you sound like a specky fory opy, who talks about shotties all the timy and can't be bothery to say the wholy wordy. It makes my eyeballs bulge with annoyance. Im tiry of this stupy way of talky. Does that make me judgy and a busy-y body-y?

Just how your parents or grandparents cringed at words like groovy, cool, keep on truckin' and far out man.

It is just the slang of the time now. I used to throw a fit when the prase "back in the day" was popular. I was trying to figure out how a 16-21 year old could justify saying that.

I think there's a difference between inventing slang terms and changing existing, normal words into baby-talk.

The "g's" are then picked up, processed, turned into "unnecessary R's", then packaged, shipped and sold to select northeasterners for use at the end of their words.

I'm with you on addy, but not the other two. Shottie I don't mind because I guess I'm just used to it from the years and years I've been playing first person shooters. And hoody is an acceptable abbreviation for the otherwise overlong "hooded sweatshirt."

I hate the word shottie, too. It has the same number of letters and syllables as shotgun, so I'm not even sure how using shottie is lazy or convenient. It sounds more like an old POS car or a small, ankle-biting, English dog. Although I don't use it, I think hoody is a suitable abbreviation for "hooded sweat shirt." I didn't know what "addy" even was; I figured it was something Australian.

I agree that hoody is the one that might make sense, although "hood" would seem to be the natural short-hand. Shotty or shottie is probably OK, if you have a very shoddy shotgun.

That's a good point about shottie/shotgun, reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend when we were both 12 or 13 (it was about videogames):

Him: "So I whipped out my gat and"
Me: "Your what?"
"My gat"
"What's a gat?"
"It's short for gun"
"Gun is three letters long"
"Yeah, but it's"
"And only one syllable"
"Yeah, but"
"You're an idiot."

One of the nicest things about not having cable anymore is I will never learn any new slang from MTV.

While R's from other places (where they "Pahk the Cah") are transported to Texas and Arkansas, where some of them are processed into other letters so that these fine folk may "Warsh the dawg."

I use 'addy' when I type, but would never use it in conversation.

That's what I get for using the interweb for 11 years.

I don't know what else to call a 'hoody'.

Everyone I know calls their camoflage uniform "cammies" or else BDUs. Very occasionally I'll hear the term "utes and boots"

I also call A-shirts "wife beaters", underwear "chonies" (that is Spanish), and shorten ammunition to "ammo".
