RIP. Marine...
« on: January 13, 2014, 01:41:46 AM »
I can't dig up the thread for some reason, but a while back I bought a garand for my Grandpa. Maybe 2008 or so. I told y'all about him then.

I got a call from my grandma about 20 minutes ago... I knew as soon as i woke up and looked at the phone.

He apparently went peacefully in his sleep. I havent seen him in a while due to the difficulty of travelling.

This was taken when he came to meet my daughter.

The mother*expletive deleted*ing shittiest part is I've been trying real hard to make time/find money for a trip out to visit them.

I feel awful. It's been like 3 years.

Jeez.

I'm sorry for your loss, Fitz, but be grateful that he went peacefully in his sleep. You can't ask for much better than that.

Sincere condolences.

According to CalGuns http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Inheriting_firearms,_both_within_California_and_Interstate Cali actually seems to follow the federal regs on inheriting if you are out-of-Cali.  As long as you were named in the will or in a probate court order settling the estate it looks like you do not even have to de-register them.

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

He has an will, I assume.  I hope.  Everything will go a lot faster if so.   Talk to the executor.  You'd do the whole through the FFL thing, of course.

Sincere condolences. Don't pound yourself on the time you missed with him - that's just life. Remember and cherish the time you had.

Very. He taught me to drive. Shared bond through our military service as well. We got along very well.

He and my grandmother were high school sweethearts. Their parents broke them up and they went off their separate ways. About 20 years ago, they reconnected, having both been single again and retired.

I'm trying to get a handle on getting my grandmother taken care of. She owns her house, owes 60k, no clue what tis worth but almost positive its a lot more than that. She owns her cars. But has NO income. they had no life insurance. Have no idea how we're gonna do this.

I'm sorry for your loss, Fitz.

I hope you are able to work out something for your grandmother.

And I hate to do this, but it needs to be said.  If you haven't, you need to sit down and get things arranged should you (or your spouse/SO) suffer an untimely demise.  Then if you have elderly parents and/or grandparents sit down with them and make sure they have a plan in place.  It's a simple fact that no one will live forever.  Having a plan in place makes that transition less painful for those left behind.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.

Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.
