That feeling on the back of your neck...
« on: September 11, 2014, 10:33:13 PM »
You know what I mean, that feeling you get when "something isn't right".

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Freedom is a heavy load, a great and strange burden for the spirit to undertake. It is not easy. It is not a gift given, but a choice made, and the choice may be a hard one. The road goes upward toward the light; but the laden traveller may never reach the end of it.  - Ursula Le Guin

My tarantula's name is Charlotte. She becomes friends with all kinds of bugs, then eats them.

They are great for keeping unwanted family members far away when they learn you have a pet tarantula.

Eight-legged critters and cats originate from outer space.  I have my suspicions about six-legged critters, too.

Had a spider come up through a miniscule crack in the floorboards of my bathroom, decided to watch her/it/him while she/it/he built a web around the crack, about 3-4" out from the floorboard.  Named her/it/him "Abigail," true gender notwithstanding.

Observed for a little more than a week.  Would scuttle back into the crack if I stomped the floor. Twice I dropped a recently-deceased but still intact fly on the web.  Boy, was she/it/he fast!  I was amazed.

Accidentally and carelessly drew her up into my vacuum cleaner.

End of experiment.

So I guess you could say I kept a spider as a pet.

Sealed the crack with silicone.

I had a couple of California Brown Tarantulas as pets and they were actually pretty docile. I used to feed them baby mice. They would usually eat about half, and leave a half a mouse laying in the terrarium.

Supposedly mine likes pinkies but I'm sticking with bugs for her.
