There doesn't seem to be a thread about this. So I guess the hive mind of APS is not so worried about the terrible fury of Dear Leader?
-
All the feds need to do is offer a lifetime supply of free beer and NASCAR VIP tickets to whomever takes care of the problem and it will be solved in the amount of time it takes a redneck to get his jon boat across the Pacific Ocean.
-
If we ignore them long enough, the Chinese will take care of them for us.

Let's put it this way...I'm not so much worried about an attack on the CONUS but the nut can cause a good bit of trouble for South Korea and if he can get a rocket to fly right, Japan.
And yeah he is just crazy enough to start some *expletive deleted*it IMHO. Especially when he's seen the *expletive deleted*ed up way we handle a war in the current times. Remember that the Korean War is not over, just in a period of "truce". I also like to remind people that the Korean War was the first war where we started going sideways in the prosecution of war...it was the first UN war and the first war where ROE started to come into play. You can see where those two ideas have gotten us today...
The good news is I seriously doubt the Chinese are going to back them this time. While some say that this is a ploy to get more aid shipments, I don't share that same faith. Kim Jong Un might realize that the power grasp that his family has maintained over a starving nation is slipping and is about to kick off something before somebody up there knocks him off the throne and kills him...better in his eyes to go out in a blaze of glory...

Dude, it would be so very fitting if one of his starving subjects offed him. >:D

I think we need a poll or maybe a friendly wager.
How long till someone whacks kim ding dong? If so Who?
US?
Russians?
China?
S Korean?
Someone else thats sick of him?

Dear Leader was Kim Jong Il. Great Leader was Kim Il Sung (the original Caudillo of the Norks). Not sure what appellation will apply to this nitwit. Maybe we should start a "Name That Tyrant" pool.
I will go first: "Cretin Leader".

I think he's known as "Dear/Great Marshal".

Nork Biden?

...and ate him.

Extra points for the Karma consideration there.

LadySmith beat me to it.
Kim's a chubby little fella . . . would probably make quite a BBQ.

God, but the taste.... [barf]

God, but the taste.... [barf]
I conjure North Koreans are accustomed to eating less-than-appetizing fare.
-
Everyone's got their breaking point. =D
(We're still only at Defcon 4 currently, though reports that they've moved a medium range missile to the coast have sprung up. )
-
Unlikely to escalate into full shooting war... there are no desired natural resources there as far as I know . Dear Leader probably intends to raise a hissy fit so that Dear Leaders from the other side will sit down with him and negotiate the lifting of some trade embargoes.

God, but the taste.... [barf]
Kimchee will cover it up.

Short-Round.

With the shipping disruptions that a Nork-started war will bring, I'll bet the forces massing on the Chinese side of the border will step in to halt Puff-Kimmy's tantrum....
-
I think his military is getting grumpy and to keep it in line he's talking his way into a war the military may or may not support.
-
So, appointing myself judge, and ruling against my own entry, the two finalists are Ben and KGBmumble.
Is it to be Li'l Kim, or Short-Round?
-
Short-Round is my nickname for my nephew, so it's taken.
-
So when Short Round grew up, he got to rule North Korea?

Poor kid . . . must have fallen in with the wrong crowd.

Uh oh. *expletive deleted*it just got real. North Korea's Twitter and Flickr accounts have been hacked:

I didn't know the Norks were on Twitter.

Of course they are. According to his official bio, Kim Jong Un invented twitter.

They're gonna do something stupid and we're going to get dragged into it......

That was Algore.
Geez, it is kinda hard to tell them apart, isn't it?

Or just his style of the "we want more wheat/rice" gambit. Or it is just symptoms of internal struggles. Intentional heightening of tensions, at least superficially because a coup would be "extra treasonous" during those times.
They are obviously making some provocative moves with some missiles and some military assets, OTOH, I've read or seen nothing that indicates they're moving even a fraction of what they need to if they expected full-blown war any day.
Military bases have LOTS of dirt, and stuff like MiG 17 copies that look like they're missing control surfaces, or whole wings. :P And nothing is indicating that China's buildup on their side of the Yalu river is to "help" the Norks.
The only kink in this theory is that it presumes the Norks haven't pulled off a decoy/intel coup on the order of Operation Fortitude/Bodyguard like the Allies did prior to D-day in 1944. [tinfoil] Although the advanced state of military surveillance/intelligence, and sensor tech, especially our uber-secret undeclared capabilities we're likely to be watching them with make that seem like a long-shot.
-
Okay, Short-Round it must be. Consider: already been attached an Asian. He's short. And round. And for extra credit, a short round fired by artillery is more dangerous to your own troops than to the enemy.
Damn, I wish I had come up with that instead of my lame-o name-o. I just have no creativity or imagination.
-
You're welcome. =D
-
Other theories:
Lil Kim actually thinks that NK security is at risk
Distraction gambit to help Iran
China is pressuring NK to reform, and this is lil kims response
China is pressuring NK to misbehave to provide opportunity for further hegemony for China in SEA.
Already mentioned by others:
internal power struggle
wants food, political bargaining chips to concede later

Ok I think we're wandering into violation of the no nickname rule with this short round stuff. Parody meme' s are encouraged, though....

I would argue that it's NOT a nickname. It's a description.
As an aside, I just realized we were not nuked yesterday. It was supposed to be yesterday, wasn't it? I guess he just wasn't able to get one up.

Where's the kaboom? There was supposed to be an earth shattering kaboom!

I thought it was supposed to be the 10th based on the whole "you should evacuate your embassies 'cause we can't be responsible for protecting you" chatter.
