These same people are always telling us we shouldn't take the law into our own hands and simply call the police who will protect us.  I guess he should have listened to himself.

The Mayor was following his own advice, calling 911. 
To his dismay, the perp got to him before the cops did.

What I want to know though, was it a registered pipe?
Was it an assault pipe?
Will Barrett now want the Milwaukee police to start carrying pipes in their squads?
Was the pipe bought through some sort of Hardware show loophole?
Was it kept in a locked storage safe seperate from the pipe fitting tape?(when not being used I mean).
And most importantly... where is the nearest place I can join in an IDPA match? (International defensive piping association)

It makes a little difference, since it adds a bit more intent and premeditation to the perp's actions. Since it's a purpose-built weapon, rather than something improvised he could have picked up at the scene.

Also WI's concealed weapons ban (only a misdemeanor though) applies to clubs, edged weapons, flails, and firearms.

Actually, flails refers to nunchuks which sort of threatened to become the "switchblade" of the 80's, until they faded back into relative obscurity. Most states called them that for legal-eese reasons, I guess.

Although WI's concealed weapon's law is so broadly written pretty much anything that could concievably kill a human being and be hidden in your pants or a jacket could be construed as running afoul of the law.

OTOH, the saving grace is that it's only a misdemeanor, and most state DA's treat otherwise clean CCW'ers like plutonium, fearing they'll send more case law up to the state supreme court and get WI's CCW ban overturned completely without a permit system in place first.

Maybe we as concerned citizens of unchecked violence with pipes should send messages to the mayor about if he is going to create laws to protect us from pipe wielding maniacs? We should suggest things like laws against assault pipes and such.

In Michigan the law covers any "deadly weapon" and its a 5 year felony. YEAH BUDDY!
