Win 7 Question

Is there a way to turn off the 'feature' in Win7 that saves my searches and coordinates them w/ advertisers ?

If I haven't explained it right, it's the function where if I look for an item one day, I see ads for that item for the next two weeks or so ... it's got to be slowing my machine down and I don't want to make all my searches available for anyone that uses my laptop.  It's not popups I'm concerned about.  I use 'No Ads' so they're not a problem ... it's the ads that websites use to pay their bills that I'd like to not see coordinated ... You mean your web searches?

That's a problem with search engines, not with win 7.

Not sure there's a way to turn that off on most modern search engines.

Chrome has Incognito mode.  Not sure if IE has something similar.

For IE, it's under "Safety" and it's called "InPrivate Browsing"

Is it the "instant" feature that's popping up any time you put something in the search box? If so you can turn it off in google settings. Click on the little gear looking icon at the top right of the screen to get to the settings menu.

I generally save my use of InPrivateBrowsing for porn but I suppose I could discipline myself to use it for everyday searches ... At first it wasn't so bad but now it seems every search ie., coach lights, shop light, etc. shows up on every web page I visit thereafter.  I suppose there are benefits to it but ... It's creepy !  Like Big Brother is watching just a little too close ...

I think they could do a better job of tailoring ads to fit me. Pandora keeps trying to sell me Bonobo's clothing, and Hulu keeps advertising casinos and Charter cable.

That kind of thing's not my bag, baby!
