From a fawning piece on how to speak like Obama:
Obama has mastered the art of pausing. Just check out his presidential acceptance speech in Chicago to see this skill at work. He pauses to let us catch up with him. He pauses to let his words resonate. He pauses, in a sense, to let us rest. Pauses also give the impression of composure and thoughtfulness.

Huh. I thought he was just pausing while the teleprompter refreshed.
-
1). He is a skilled speaker, with help.
2). He does not pause to "let us catch up", and rarely do I find myself needing to catch up to him.
3). He does not pause to "let his words resonate", but that would be a good reason if it were true.
4). He does not pause to "let us rest", and I've never felt mentally exhausted trying to grasp his words.
5). His pauses do not give an impression of composure, though I could see him pulling off thoughtfulness. Pausing like he does every speech shows me the opposite of composure. I learned that from my cultural anthropology teacher. =D
Those aren't rose-colored glasses. He has Obama painted on the inside of the lenses.

I've noticed that he likes to draw out his s's, especially at the end of a clause. I hate his slow, deliberate manner of speaking, but that seems to be the fashion for politicians these days.
-
I'm no fan either, but I prefer it to Al Gore's "I am talking down to you" tone.
-
I will go with waiting for the teleprompter or ear bud to tell him what he is going to say next........chris3

Obama is the smartest kid in the class of a very dumbed-down America. He mastered the jargon that got him through academia. When you hear words like "parameters" be careful where you are stepping.
-
The dividing line in America is between those who think Obama is smarter than they are and those who don't.
Count me in the latter camp.

Quoted for truth.

 That is so right.

Mastery of oration why Ronald Reagan got the title "The Great Communicator."
Comparing Reagan to Obama STRICTLY on oratorical skills?
Reagan all the way.

ummm aahh ummm ummmm aahhh ummmm, yeah right ;/
=D
-
At least Reagan could speak well contemporaneously.
-
And extemporaneously, as well. =)

Even the best speakers have moments in which their words, thoughts, composure, etc., desert them. That doesn't take away from their overall capabilities as a speaker.
George Bush, terrible speaker.
Jimmy Carter, OK speaker.
Reagan and Kennedy? Both who understood that not only content but also presentation were important, and were both good at it? Great speakers.

I thought that avoiding those "words" was exactly why he paused. He is pausing to make sure he speaks clearly. I was thinking Bush did the same thing.

That is not "rose-colored glasses".....THAT is a psychiatric disorder that can be treated successfully with the right medications.... =|

More red-colored than rose-colored, methinks.

The content of his speeches are lugubriously nebulous.
-
And extemporaneously, as well.
Sorry, I keep confusing my 'temporaneously's.

The content of his speeches are lugubriously nebulous.
Now that's downright poetical. =D

Didacticaly poetical. =D
-
Diabolically dialectical.

Disastrously dysfunctional.

Not really....but a vigorous therapy regiment of being locked in a Las Vegas hotel suite with Laura Inghram and Michelle Malkin after a large intake of a premium alcoholic beverage would be a successful treatment for this.....
...maybe I should find a psychiatrist to prescribe this for me as well..... ;)
