Republican running to be South Carolina's next National Guard leader launches his campaign with what he called a "machine-gun social."

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- A candidate to be South Carolina's next National Guard leader skipped the fiery speeches for firepower, launching his campaign with what he called a "machine-gun social."

The Greenville News reports some 500 people came out to a shooting range Saturday for Republican Dean Allen's political rally. He wants to be the next adjutant general, the person who leads the state's National Guard.

Attendees paid $25 for barbecue, a clip of bullets for target practice and the chance to win a semiautomatic AK-47. Whoever wins the rifle will have to undergo a background check.

South Carolina is the only state that elects its adjutant general.

Interesting way to raise funds and get media coverage.

It could have been a stripper clip of ammo.  I've gotten 7.62x39mm on clips before.  Pretty often, actually, just not domestically.

1. I think we both know that's unlikely. 2. They still called full rounds bullets. Maybe half an eye roll? :P

Well, technically that is accurate.  You are getting the bullets.  You just get cases, primers, and powder also.  :)

True, but this is APS.  We must be a) snarky and b) point out highly unlikely scenarios to explain common occurrences.  See MechAg94's post for a perfect example   =D

I call them clips just to irritate the bubbas.  Until they do something about the "clip" noise when you insert a magazine, it is still a clip. Then, I pull out my Garand.  It is one of the purposes of life, to butcher words.   I would vote for this guy too but I don't live there.....chris3

I kinda doubt it is an "AK-47"

mayhaps its a kalshnikov pattern sporting rifle

I hate the improper use of words as much as anyone, but outside of gun discussion forums, clip and magazine are used interchangeably all over the place.

I'm not.  If he wants to AG of the state NG, then he needs to be raffling off an AR-15.

I wonder if they were shooting the AK that was being raffled off? 30 rds x500 people= worn out rifle.

Not if it's an AK.   That's its break-in period... you just have to change out the three springs (four if you include the magazine) when you're done.  =D

(I have a Bulgarian SLR-95 that's an honest 2-MOA gun, so of course I'm going to poke the errornet mythology just a smidgen...)

In Marlin's defense, they sell .22 rifles with tube magazines and with ... clip magazines ("box" magazines ?  "stick" magazines ?  I've heard both).  So they're just using "clip" as an adjective to distinguish from their tube magazines.

Yes yes I know that they aren't all equally made. I've shot a few Century WASR-10s that were far less impressive- I'd much rather have my SKS than one of those. I'll admit that I'm still kicking myself over not buying the SAR-1 for $250 from a pawn shop 8-9 years ago.
