Paul Newman RIP. Dead at 84.
« on: September 27, 2008, 05:05:53 AM »
One of the coolest on screen movie stars, probably ever.

Dies today at the age of 84 after long fight with cancer.

Always seemed like a genuinely nice guy too at least in interviews etc, and the charity from his food products.
No idea what his politics were but rest in peace Paul.

He may have been liberal...but he put his own money where his mouth was....

...and a great actor to boot....

...we'll miss you, Luke....

A class act out of Hollywood.

Truly rare.  He'll be missed.

Sad, indeed.

He was a fine actor who left a precious legacy we need to preserve.

He died Friday, September 26th at his farm in or near Westport, Connecticut, a town I used to live in from 1961 to 1980.  My mother ran into him in stores and other places on a few occasions.  She said he was a nice guy that most people would like as a neighbor.
IIRC he was into car racing.
At 83 (4?) unfortunatly his battle with cancer was a losing proposition from the start.  But he led a long and rich life.
R.I.P.  Mr. Newman.

They were reporting 84 at first, now most of them have changed to 83.

Bummer. I never agreed with his politics, but he sure could whip up a mean pasta sauce and salad dressing.

He gave an interview a while back where he said the reason he never ran for political office was that he was afraid people would vote for him because he was a celebrity, not for where he was on the issues . . . sounds like a pretty principled stand to me.

He also did a lot of charity work without posing for the cameras . . . a genuinely decent man.

Not many of those left in Hollyweird any more . . .  sad

My Mama's favorite actor, and one of mine. As others have said, a class act. Not many like him in any walk of life.
