Series 70 Gold Cup
« on: October 28, 2008, 12:54:29 AM »
Can someone point me to an idiot's guide to renstalling the darn sear depressor lever that is unique to the GOld Cup?  I'm on day 3 here, with no end in sight.  I really don;t want to haul a plastic bowl full of parts tot he gunsmith...

Heh...I'm sure it wouldn't be the first or last time he's seen a bowl of parts.

Xavier or Tam. Either ought to know.

I've never touched one.

Finally got it together.  Now, if I only knew what weight of hammer spring to install...

At some point, many people exceed their ability and send a gunsmith a "bag of gun". ;)

Is it possible to "de-series-70" the front end of one of these damn things? I wouldn't mind installing a regular bushing and barrel...

What is different about the series 70?  I thought those were standard and the series 80 had the Swartz safety.

FWIW, here is a good source that I've used for reassembly: http://www.m1911.org/ReassemblyAnimation.htm

And for all things 1911: http://forum.m1911.org/

They have the stupid collet barrel bushing, for one thing.

Even Colt finally gave up on it.

Then there's all the extra (for a normal 1911) Gold Cup lockwork bits that Richyoung discovered inside the gun...
"Bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round...

G98, thanks.  I thought the collet bushing was a flash-in-the-pan.  I'll never stop learning about guns in general, and the 1911 in particular.
