Title: Black Friday Deal: 50" 4k TV worthwhile?
Post by: mtnbkr on November 22, 2017, 04:07:57 PM
Best Buy has a Sharp 50" 4k TV (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sharp-50-class-49-5-diag--led-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-roku-tv/5746805.p?skuId=5746805&ref=199&loc=VJQZNxQ9nek&acampID=1&siteID=VJQZNxQ9nek-uYo48cOBwcgmA.f.YSGwrA) on sale for $180 as a doorbuster.  I'm tempted as I'd like a larger TV for our den, but am concerned about the 60hz refresh.

I know the benefit of 120 vs 60, but I also know our current TV is a 9yr old 40" 720p LCD (not LED).  With it's larger screen, smaller bezel, lower weight, and lower power usage due to the LED backlight, this appears to be a nice upgrade to our existing TV.

Is 60hz cause for avoiding at this price point even if our current TV is also 60hz?

For everyday watching it's plenty fine. For gaming or for a TV that'll have a lot of sports watched on it, you may have issues with pixellation during times of intense screen activity.

Moot point as it turned out to be one of those crazy door busters people were camping out for days in advance.  However, to your point, gaming and sports are not enjoyed on the living room TV, so that isn't a factor for us.  Strictly movies, "TV", and cartoons...

"gaming and sports are not enjoyed on the living room TV"

They don't enjoy you either, Christopher.

Matter of fact, sports ball breaks wind in your general direction...
