Read the Declaration tomorrow

Tomorrow is the anniversary of Independence.  Do yourself a favor, and read the Declaration tomorrow.  If you have young children, have them read it, or read it to them.

Nothing groundbreaking, but the Library of Congress revealed yesterday that Thomas Jefferson had originally written the word "subjects" in an early draft of the Dec. of Ind., then crossed it out and wrote "citizens."

Might pay to review the first paragraph of the Preamble to the Bill of Rights, too...

My Dad gave us a couple of big(20x36, probably) copies of the Declaration that he, for some reason "had".  One is hanging on the wall, right next to an American flag.  Anyone who walks into the house can't help but see them :)

Cool.

I had the privilege of reading the Declaration (or most of it) to some church folks on Sunday afternoon.  I hope to make it a tradition.  Just hope if it takes off, I don't have to read it every time.  =)

     Is it Divinely inspired Fistful? I mean that as a half-joke. Obviously I don't mean that in the sense that I think of my own Scripture as Divinely inspired, but as a "food for thought" question that might spark some fun debate after Wed. night prayer meeting.

I kinda doubt there would be much debate.  Probably, we would all agree that God had an influence on the American Revolution and that specific document.  Not canon-level inspiration, but some kind of divine guidance at least.

I spent Independence Day out of the country, a VERY unusual circumstance, as I almost NEVER travel abroad.  Stayed with future in-laws (my daughter is getting married), who are not American by birth.  There, hanging on the wall of the great room in their guest house, was a framed copy of a replica of the Declaration.  I teared up reading it on 07/04.  Some folks get it.

Sounds like your daughter is marrying into a good family
On two occasions, I have been asked [by members of Parliament], "Pray, Mr. Babbage, if you put into the machine wrong figures, will the right answers come out?" I am not able to rightly apprehend the kind of confusion of ideas that could provoke such a question.

Ah, the stories I could tell.  Let's just say that not all Europeans are socialist weenies.  I mean, we all KNOW that, but it's so refreshing to actually run across them.  To have them as in-laws (soon) is an unmixed blessing.
