I had a friend that took me up in his plane now and then. He always said that it was better to be down wishing you were up rather than up wishing you were down.

I grew into it as Dad is a pilot, my first flight was when I was a little over a year old.

I did a discovery flight forever ago (middle school?) and was a big sim nut forever. Did ground school. Wanted to get licensed but mom couldnt afford to keep sending me. It's been in the back of my mind my entire life.

Been dinking around in FS with some really neat dallas area photorealistic scenery.

A word of caution about flight sims...they can induce bad habits very easily. They are good for learning stuff like VOR/NDB and other instrument procedures, plus some learning of navigational practices (dead reckoning, plus some landmark based navigation) but can hurt you when it comes to the fundamentals of flying.

A high school friend of mine went Navy air crew. He used to give me lots of *expletive deleted*it about subs.
I would just point out that there is a bunch more airplanes on the bottom of the ocean than submarines stuck up in the sky.

I get that from a retired bubblehead Senior Chief I know all the time. He is lucky to still be here, he was the diving officer on the USS San Francisco when they hit the uncharted seamount off of Guam.

My uncle is affiliated with the Foursquare Church's mission programs in Brazil - well, to be fair, for a time there he was in charge of missions in Brazil... My uncle is also a completely unapologetic practical joker..... So he'd have these pastors from the US coming to visit churches in Brazil, and vice-versa. Well, he was usually the one who translated for the visiting pastors. And invariably, he'd have them ask how to say "Good morning" or some other things in Portuguese. Well, instead of teaching them to say "Bom Dia" which is "Good morning".... He'd tell them it was "bundinha".... Which means "little ass"..... Or for example, having the 60+ year old female pastor say, instead of "embaraÃ§ada" about her poor Portuguese (embarrassed), he'd say it's "engravida".... Which is pregnant.... little things like that.... :D

Unless you're in Class B, C, or D airspace, tell the controller to get bent.
