I always figured something like this would be a good platform to start with.  http://www.wally.com/wally-118/

No Gunz and only a 300nm range, which might work if we're hunting the pirates of the Caribbean.  ;)
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

Many modern luxury yachts have been retrofitted off of military patrol type platforms.

What struck me about one of the custom ones was that it has it's own landing craft for putting the owner's 4x4 ashore.

although if we did get helo and pilot, then we need folks to maintain it, get parts for it.

Put a diesel engine in it and make Boomhauer do the maintenance.

Maybe I'm just sadistic, but I'd prefer to just be able to launch a fleet of these equipped with various attachments to quietly hole their boats miles from shore.

I wonder....the average icebreaker, how bad would that probably smash up the types of boats the Somali pirates like to use for motherships..... >:D

. . . And AJ, there's a reason mortars are NOT used on surface ships.
I thought it's because they were exclusive to the submarine service?

You don't really want to keep ramming a ship even with an ice breaker.  Ice breakers are designed to ride up on top of the ice and break it.  You would have to make modifications to the bow for ramming.  You'd be better off designing a ship, from the get go, to ram stuff.  Sorry to be a wet blanket!

Now that's more like it. I approve.

We even have a member who can (maybe) translate the instructions and the names of all the nice, red buttons.

I can neither confirm or deny the presence of tacticool nookyaloor mortars on US Navy submarines.

And that wouldn't work why?  I doubt it's going to get stuck high centered on this:

It wont get high centered on something like that.  It will screw up the bow of the ship though.  At about 1:15 in the video is a good shot of an ice breaker at work and you can see why the bow would get messed up by repeatedly ramming another ship.  If I was going to build a ship to ram stuff it would have an actual ram.
