TOO RICH
« on: April 25, 2016, 01:59:57 PM »
http://www.migaloo-submarines.com/

You know you are too damn rich if you can afford one of these.
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Bacon is the candy bar of meats!

Only the dead have seen the end of war!

No, you'd be too rich. If I could afford it, it would be just the right amount of rich.

Not without nuclear power, it's not.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

That. I liked the video, "discover uncharted paths", ummmmmmmm no. I have a good friend that tried that onboard the USS San Francisco when they hit an uncharted seamount off of Guam. To say he is lucky to still be here among the living in an understatement.

The migaloo would just be one of those "lost at sea" anecdotes when sailors get together if it hit anything underwater I have a feeling. ;)

That looks like it was one hell of a bad day.  Just read the Wiki article.  Glad there were so few injuries, and only the one fatality.  Hitting a mountain at full speed...  (shudder).

My friend was the Diving Officer of the Watch (DOOW) when they grounded.

I was the Diving Officer of the Watch when we grounded. If you read the emails from ComSubPac, you will get some of the details, from flank speed to less than 4 knots in less than 4 seconds. We have it recorded on the RLGN's-those cranky bastages actually stayed up and recorded everything. For you guys that don't understand that, take a Winnebego full of people milling around and eating, slam it into a concrete wall at about 40mph, and then try to drive the damn thing home and pick up the pieces of the passengers.

I really doubt that think can stay submerged all the time.  Probably only goes submerged for short periods.  However, I would expect some sort of active sonar to stay on at all times.

HY-80 served me well enough but I think they have changed over to HY-100 or HY-110 now a days.

I finally saw where it said the test depth was 450 meters.  That is pretty deep.  I guess the maintenance inspections are for the little people.

A guy at work was down in the Florida Keys.  He met a guy who was a deck hand on one of those big yahts.  Apparently it was a cush job with not a lot to do except when the boss was in town.  Then there was also the issue that the boss might decide to go to Hawaii and order the crew to move the boat over there.

I guess all the real billionaires are looking for status symbols to waste money.

I'd rather have my own floaty island....
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

Tiny detail, doesn't mean the brains behind an endeavor such as this has to be near water.

They Seawolfs were HY-100 due to their deeper diving requirement, but I think they went back to 80 for the Virginias due to HY-100 being a royal PITA to weld...I could be wrong.

In any case, "Not even GOD can get through HY-100"  =)
