So how hypocritical? The guy made a stupid mistake, a mistake that has been made by lots of other people regardless of political affiliation.

The gun was registered and licensed. Maybe via a law the guy had voted on.

Hypocrisy would be if he owned the gun without following the appropriate laws.

He was legal in the sense that he used the system set up for those who wield power to skirt the laws the rest of us must obey.
